"I wish we could do away with labels" is something young queer people are saying constantly. Not saying that Ryan is or isn't, I would guess that he is probably straight, but it's a common refrain among younger people (mostly younger then Ryan is), both queer and straight people.

not only are you incorrect (it is absolutely not common among young queer people), but you JUST used the label of "young queer people" which quite literally depends on the word queer. hopefully you can see how doing away with labels means that there can be made no reference to it, and thus no social movement, discussion, or representation can be had.

the no labels thing has always been very much a straight people thing. some way of avoiding stating their sexuality. it usually comes from the super queerbaity ones that know if they keep it ambiguous like that, they'll keep their gay fans around with the chance they might be queer.
it's like people who say they're "not political", what they actually mean is they're aware their political views don't align with the political views of the people they're engaging at the time, and so they prefer to act as if they're non political, as to not have to deal with the others going off on them for their views
