Here’s my take on it:
He’s from a conservative family where the dad is dominant force. Sam’s cut because the dad’s cut and the dad would think anything else is irresponsible parenting. Sam is a liberal voter, not because HE necessarily thinks they’re the best, but because the dad has indoctrinated the family’s thinking.

You are probably right, but I think he is a liberal voter because he does think they are the best - he keeps going on about how they are the best for the Environment...
