My dad has worn anything from plain white tightie whites to bikini type briefs forever always seemed to have a mix in his drawer and didn’t seem to have a rhyme or reason as to which he would wear daily. Today, he wears light colored grey boxer briefs, me, still in same FTL or Hanes briefs.

Hey man, check on eBay, they're still out there, some in new old stock. I ordered some a while back but unfortunately, they were too small. Nice pale blue ones, ultra thin with the cool snap front. My favorite are the snap front yoke boxers.

That's what my dad wore, the yolk front boxer shorts. I ordered some from J.C. Penney some years ago but they were not very well made.
