Shawn Mendes

That doesn't make sense. Shawn is not going to be sitting at the top of the charts for more than a week or two, if at all, so releasing closer to Style's date would be worse for his chart rank and sales.

The album is pushed because it's mid and none of his singles went anywhere. He was overshadowed by almost every other pop act at the VMAs, zero buzz from his performance. The label is currently shopping for a hit because this era is giving Justing Timberlake's "Into The Woods" vibes.

Yeah that album sucks but the tour was awesome. I don't think Shawn can top this. It's always him playing guitar or piano singing about his teenage love.

Musically, Shawn is no longer good enough

He is making a stripped back album, I highly doubt him or the label expect anything chart wise. He performed a slow song at the vmas and he can't add a song last minute as it takes months to change that.. in fact he played the exact same album the other day in nashville

This.

TBF, if the record label released his album at the same day as Styles it would be BETTER for them to give excuses: "oh, Shawn didn't get the #1 because people bought Harry's albums"
lol you guys talk so much nonsense. His new date has big people like gwen stefani or a bts releasing their albums. They can't "shop for an hit" for an album that has been announced months ago.

Shawn and his all male social circle. Not a woman in site.

Except Shawn said this.
“My team and i have decided to push the album release date to November 15th. We just need a little bit more time to bring some new inspiration and ideas to life. I love you guys thank you for being so patient, I can't wait to see you guys at the next few shows.
It's an album, not Ted Talk, the only reason the inspiration they are adding here is a prayer of a hit song or two. Labels do this all the time when in panic mode.

Um, yes they can shop for a hit. You simply add a track or two and throw more money on fresh promotion. Many songs chart with the album release so they can recover but they said, plane as day, that they are adding new inspiration to the album, that means new tracks. Hence the month delay.

You can shop for hits. Loads of hit songs we know bounced around from artist to artists till it was purchased for an album. Writers can have songs out there for days to years. Other times you can hire an artists to come make you a hit as Morgan Wallen and Beyonce have done repeatedly. Chappell Roan used the same producer/writer (Dan Nigro) as Olivia Rodrigo for her two big hits "Good Luck, Babe" and "Hot To Go". Jive Records flew 16 year old Britney out to Europe to work with Max Martin on "Baby One More Time". Yes, you can shop and buy a hit.

Shawn may have songs ready or is looking for fresh songs but I expect we will see some big named producer on the lead single for the album release.

The same with Ava Max and Kim Petras - they released more than two albums of "avulse" songs until they had enough streaming numbers to condense in a single album - using the most popular tracks from Shellback, Luke and Martin

It´s sad because his best album is "Handwritten", and that says a lot about his career
Handwritten is his worst album are you out of your mind his self titled is unarguably his best

not sure if you saw but the album is on pre-order, he played the album live already multiple times and he didn't add any song. It takes 2 months to press new vinyls and CDs. He is not changing that album, he is simply adding more "promos" to it.

yeah cause he's actually promoting his album this time after playing it dust for months. once again, you can't change an album or add new tracks a month before release. It takes 2 months for them to press vinyls. that is simply not an option with a November release.

This is the digital streaming age, vinyls can be pushed and a vinyl of an album no one is buying is worth next to nothing compared to a vinyl of an album doing numbers. But since you say I'm wrong, why did he delay the release and what is tweaking to force a one month delay?

Reminder:
Shawn album -
  • "Why Why Why" peaked at 84 on the Billboard Top 100. Only made 10 Ten in Germany and NZ. 17 in Canada!
  • "Nobody Knows" didn't even chart in most nations beyond NZ at 22 and Sk at 136.
Wonder album -
  • "Wonder" 18 on billboard and top 10 in at least 5 countries.
  • "Monster" thanks to JB was a hit, topped many charts in the top 5 range. 8 on Billboard.
  • "Summer of Love" Hung out in the 20s in most countries, 48 in the US.
Shawn has never really been a singles darling on global charts, but he's been down bad since COVID but this was his worst performance to date. Anyone can crack out a #1 album thanks to streaming so he'll be fine on that front unless sales follow his singles down the tubes.

Just adding some data showing how comparably dire the album reception has been compared to his last roll out. He's never pushed an album without at least one top 20 hit. This is why his label is panicking. Don't forget IOUs from his cancelled tour that he likely needs to make up.

I just don't know how you'd market him nowadays he's gone from cute boy who sings elevator music that soccer mom's like to the neurotic campish guy always making press releases about how he's not gay to a barefoot hippie with dirty feet constantly talking about being free with the " boys" in nature.

Honestly. If I were his agent I'd have given him a James dean make over, an electric guitar and make him go the pop punk rock route, have him get into some fights, falling out of clubs and make him look like an edgy wild child or something rather than the accousitc folk hippie route.

But whatevs, get ya dick out bro
