I’m considering donating sperm to make money for college. I know they don’t pay much but has anyone ever done this before? It kinda sounds creepy but also an exciting thing to try at least once.

I live in Canada and sadly they don’t pay for sperm donations.
I did donate during university for some research they were doing. I figure if I was going to knock some out I may as well help out science.

I probably would have when I was younger, but most sperm repositories were/are highly discriminatory against African American donors.
The dynamic has changed somewhat today, and on paper I might make an attractive donor choice to a select demographic....but now I have sociocultural arguments against even considering it.

My friend made so much money he said. They really care about your attributes: height, weight, facial attractiveness, education, ethnicity, eye color etc. Some even do IQ tests.
All of these factors could determine how much you get paid. Additionally he said your sperm quality and volume matters. My friend said he would avoid hot showers, avoid substances, and take supplements.

It’s lowkey eugenicist. I’ve heard most places won’t let you do it if you’re under 5’10.
It's not the places per se, it's the patrons of these repositories. Societally unchecked hypergamy is enough of an issue as is, this just turns it up to ten.
I've seen a couple of documentaries/news items recently, that imply much like the dating market, certain individuals atop the hypergamous hierarchy are wrecking havoc with no incentive to stop as their sperm is highly sought after.

Before you become a regular donor they do some tests. Cotton bud up your eurythra to check for disease and also on your first donation to check you have enough swimmers and also to see if it will freeze properly (apparently a high percentage have cum that won't thaw out and still work).

That rather reminds me of a conversation I overheard, where there was some unofficial service for lesbian couples where gay men would provide the sperm. In this case there was no fucking: the man would cum in a syringe turkey baster or something of that sort, either with or without the help of a partner, then the woman, or her partner, would squirt it up her. This would be much cheaper than involving a proper sperm bank and potentially more convenient too. It was up for individual agreement whether the men concerned remained involved with the child. But, to play devil's advocate here, sexual selection is a thing outside sperm banks, i.e. women have "types" they are attracted to, just as men do. The sperm banks could quite reasonably argue that they are simply duplicating that for their customers rather than just offering them some random dudes sperm.

I donated in my late 20s but not for the money. I wanted to help others have kids and it's a kick to know I probably have progeny out there. It's a clinical process but that didn't bother me. The place I used asked for photos so prospective parents could flip through a catalog to see what donors looked like as well as read all their biometric data and family medical history.
When I stopped the clinic called and encouraged me to continue. I thought it was because my goo was popular but other donors told me the same happened to them. Reality was the clinic could not keep up with demand.

The difference here is in large part even if women coelesce on a "type", those women will have to appeal to, cooperate with or submit to these men in order to get their sperm, i.e., the price of a genetically desirable child is some level of relationship, cooperation, or compromise she would have to act out. Sperm banks essentially allow women to access sperm without "earning" it...which I understand is sort of a wild thing to say now....but I can imagine a near future with AI powered gynoid sex bots and artificial wombs that a lot of women will take affront to any and all men having unilateral access to the beauty and fertility they crave, without having to protect or provide for them, or even appeal to their amicabilities. When the neckbeard incel of the future is a couple of crypto moves from having all that he's seeking from the female delegation without "bettering" himself is when my concerns about what's going on with sperm banks will make more sense
It's not an uncommon arrangement to conceive a child in this way especially where lesbian couples are perceived as unstable or incapable of supporting a child.
A couple I know well have two children conceived this way, I'm the biological father of one of them but don't know which one...
Actually now that you've said this, I actually think a much more reasonable system would be one where all samples are vetted and approved for health and what not, and the women would only be able to select for race/ethnicity. I think for the convenience of not having to be in some some sort of cooperation with the source of the genes you seek, you should have less optionality at play...I think if you want to narrow it down to other features then it is perhaps upon you to put out yourself out there and face that man's selectivity, or demands in exchange for his sperm.
