Hello there

I’m relatively small, about 5.5in and cut, looking to get an extender or a pump (probably a pump because I would like some girth too), and I was wondering what recommendations people can make?

I haven’t done this before and would like a safe and effective option.

Thanks in advance!

I bought my vacuum pump from Dr. Joel Kaplan many, many years ago and it's still working like a charm.

When choosing, I chose a width size just above my erect width and one a 1/4" larger. I was after length as my width was fine. It helped me gain in erect length from 6" long to 7 1/2" long. My width gain was only 1/4".

I did perform jelqs along with vacuum pumping. My vacuum had to be below 5 hg to prevent splotching and foreskin swelling.

Best of luck to you. It worked for me.

...I’m relatively small, about 5.5in and cut,..

so that's not small, that's above the worldwide average, and you can start with prettymuch anything, though if it can have water in it, then you're off to a great start.

Bathmate 7/8 isn't a bad idea, though neither is one of the hand pump cheapie penis pumps from the local sex shop/adult store, since you can hold it open ot a tap till it's about 1/3rd filled with water, and then secure it to your pelvis and start pumping to make a seal (though a pumping cushion is advised to help keep the seal the cushion and the pump together should cost under 70$ CAD before taxes easily)

remember that sessions shouldn't be longer than 15 min and at the beginning no more than once every 3 days for the first month. no more than every other day after that should be fine. pressure wise, you want a firm tug at the most (many of us only have the one penis, and it's a good idea to keep it fully functioning)

I don't know your age, but one thing I've thought about is that when I began vacuum pumping and jelqing/stretching, I was in my early 30s. My cock responded favorably, and I always thought it might have responded so quickly due to my relatively young age.
Going from 6" to 7.5" really surprised me, and my wife was astonished that it had worked. By age 35 my progress pretty much stalled-out as I was happy with my new length and didn't pump or stretch very often. I pump and stretch about twice a week, now.

Sorry to piggy back but curious about this topic and then stumbled across this. I found some research after reading about a device originally intended for peyronies treatment, a muscular disorder that causes curving of the penis, that ended up working to enlarge the penis. So i'm curious for those who have had growth if the growth is permanent or requires continued maintenance. The article i read included a first hand account of use by the writer he noticed growth but they only used it for a week or two and growth was temporary. But also the device is like $500 USD which is a lot. I'm 6.5 but would hope to gain .5-1" Thanks in advance!...

Would you be willing to share what model you purchased/have?

I don't know the model #, or name, but it's just under 2" wide, and is a manual pump. Dr. Joel Kaplan pumps aren't the least expensive but I can attest to the fact they last for a long time. My step-up cylinder is over 2" wide. I bought it almost 20 years ago and it's still working perfectly.

is pumping better than using an extender?

Back at the end of 2015 after using a pump. I bought the Penimaster pro plus. £240. Used for a solid year 6 hrs a day.
Permanent gain of 1 inch with some girth improvement. I'm 7.5 x 5.9 now.
I go back and forth between traction use in the years since then.
The gain has been permanent as evidenced by not using traction for a year.
I'm hoping to go back to more intensive use again soon and wish to gain another half an inch.
It should be possible because my maximum measurement reached at one point was 7.8.
