I read about this story but is it confirmed it's him sleeping at the park? What if he's someone who looks like him? I find it weird because why didn't he book a hotel room somewhere else in Paris?

Yes it’s confirmed! Thomas even gave statements regarding he poor conditions. Two news publications reported the story. And all athletes are housed at the Olympic Village. They are not allowed to lodge elsewhere. It’s miserable! Sub par food, and poor conditions all around.

Wasn't there a "new rule" just implemented yesterday, that if the athlete does not stay in the olympic village they have to go through the general entrance? Which would be highly inconvenient to someone who needs their rest and warmup time to give their best performance.

It's the olympics, finding a nearby hotel with vacancy probably won't be easy with all the tourists, and a lot of the athletes don't have the monetary means to just book a hotel. Jack Laugher opened an OF to be able to cover the costs of his career and he's participated in 4 Olympics...

No air conditioning in the rooms of the olympic village is an absurde choice. The heat wave in Europe is extreme these weeks. How can you rest and sleeep well if it's too hot in your bedroom? That's pathetic, athletes should be given the best conditions in order the compete the best way they can, i find it undelievable that a gold medalist olympian sleeps at the park.
