Hi y'all.
I know I'm not the only one with thyroid issues here on lpsg. I'm wondering for the guys here, preferably those over 40-45yo, who have thyroid issues and need medication to supplement thyroid needs:

What was your libido like when you started having symptoms of either hyper- or hypothyroidism?
What was your libido like when you started taking medication to correct thyroid imbalance?
Did you notice any differences in your penis, erection quality, erection frequency, and sensitivity increase or decrease?

I've had weight gain (it was 20 pounds gained in about 6 weeks for literally no reason), sluggishness/fatigue, random bouts of falling asleep at any time of day or night for no reason, cold hands and feet, major brain fog, major lack of motivation to work out at the gym or even just do my job (which I love and is very fun btw), forgetfulness, and loss of some libido.

I had three rounds of bloodwork done. I'm subclinical hypothyroidism, its barely registering as hypo on the lab results but all other blood work shows nothing else my symptoms could be. My doc is thorough we tested everything even D3 and B12. Testosterone is 638 and I know it was likely higher before all these symptoms started suddenly around November 2023. Thyroid problems can negatively affect sex hormone production.

I have some light ED sometimes now, and EQ is either super steel hard or kind of mediocre. Never an idea what makes it vary. I have little desire to cum all day and night like I used to. Like a switch my libido went from wanting to cum 5+ times a day from the minute I woke up to I kinda feel like I want to cum, and even sex with my wife "sounds" like its going to be a chore, even though we have great fun sex every time and I love it when I'm engaged in it. Its the thought of what's to come tonight that sounds like "something I have to do" and I'm not into doing anything anymore.

I'm really praying my libido comes back a good bit! Finally my doctor is putting me on low dose levothyroxine to see how it helps my symptoms. She was on the fence to say I have hypothyroidism, but she's finally coming around and willing to prescribe me meds. I'm so excited!! I just can't wait to feel like normal again. We talked about my T levels and she thought it wasn't that low, but did a double take on it, looked at me, looked at the chart again, and I said "I feel like it was higher, like 800+ before these symptoms started, I've lost some spark for sure" and she said yah, its not low enough to prescribe TRT but she didn't say you're high enough and shouldn't be worried. I feel like she agreed with me that I was higher before this stuff started with my thyroid.

As a faithful member of lpsg I'll update here with my progress into the land of thyroid regulation, new territory for me. My wife takes meds for thyroid every day so I'm familiar with it. I'm also very excited to start this treatment because its easy to do and I should for sure get relief from the numerous symptoms plaguing my life the last almost year and a half.

Thanks to anyone sharing their thyroid stories here!

I have hashimoto's (low thyroid) for over 20 years (diagnosed in mid 20s). I was not a borderline case, either, as I had full-fledged low thyroid disease (THS was about 6 or 7, but some doctors won't treat it until your TSH is 10 or over [less common now]).

I never had a lot of your symptoms (never had ED, etc.). My symptoms were fatigue, weight gain, nervousness, aches and pains, acid refulx, and headaches. I still struggle with these symptoms today.
My medication dosage changes from time to time. Sadly, medication doesn't take away a lot of my symptoms.

Best of luck, friend. I hope you get to the bottom of all of this, and that your symptoms get resolved. As I said, I still struggle with some symptoms that never got resolved. It's just life. Take care yourself, and live in a healthy lifestyle as best as you can. ;)

(PS: Overactive thyroid or Grave's disease is much more dangerous than Hashimoto's, or autoimmune low thyroid disease, even though both diseases can leave you feeling terrible).

Diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in my mid 40s, after I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, I suddenly became hypothyroidism. I do take daily medication for thyroid. I never had an issues with libido or ed. Not till I hit very late 50s. Libido seems low, I’m not sure if it’s due to relationship issues or age or both. Had testosterone checked 550. They say that normal for my age. So I started to exercise. I have to look for another Dr. l am in very decent shape for my age and my Dr. doesn’t want to seem to locate what’s causing low libido. For a long while I was feeling sluggish, so exercise makes me feel more energetic. I keep reading that as you age low libido is natural and other articles say aging had nothing to do with low libido. And then read that aging is not a factor in low libido but it the issues that some people get, like diabetes, cardiovascular issues etc. who the hell knows. I have to find a new Dr who will explore this more.

I started the thyroid med and it did help some with weight. But still not quite as driven and energized as when younger. In January I started TRT and that was a game changer. Energy is way up, exercise every day, and my cock is always ready to go. It is Like I am 30 again. Down side is cost, nipple tenderness, and acne of all things. Now the Doc is dialing down the dosage so hopefully the side effects subside.

I have Hashimoto's and the only thing that has helped me is Erfa, as levothyroxine is lab made synthetic, whereas Erfa is desiccated thyroid. Luckily my testosterone remained okay and is in the range of teenagers still, and that is what I am blaming on me being horny 24x7. The Erfa certainly helped me drop the stupid extra 4 stone I had put on before being diagnosed properly. My GP lets me self dose the amount, as I know my body better than he does, but I know when I have over medicated as I get the jitters.

Can you say more about how you switched from levo to Erfa with an NHS GP? Do you get it free on prescription or do you have to pay for it? I am not convinced that levo is right for me but thought alternatives were off limits for me in the UK.

Levo did not work for me and I asked to be referred to an Endocrinologist. He was brilliant, was aware of the limitations of levo and trialled me on Armour at the time. The difference was incredible, and he authorised my GP to continue prescribing (free prescription) and to monitor my bloods. The NHS has a duty of care, and if an Endocrinologist, or other specialist, specifies specific treatment, even if 'off-book', as Armour and Erfa are, then it is still honoured with the specialists say so.

I was prescribed levothyroxine as my level was borderline and my doctor thought it would help (it does).
I was and am, completely asymptomatic. I was horny before and I'm just as horny after taking it for 20+ years at this point. I had some extra weight on me before and still do, as there has been zero impact on that. I started to get occasional ED in my late 40s and use tadalafil (Cialis) as insurance on occasion.
I don't think any of these things have anything to do with my thyroid as I've noticed zero before and after differences.
