Maybe but the SAG winner for Best Actor typically wins the Oscar too so his chances just skyrocketed.
The Screen Actors Guild and Academy Actors voting Branch have a significant overlap in membership, but they don't always vote the same way for both awards. It's possible voters gave him a SAG because the already knew he wasn't getting an Oscar.

Perhaps but only twice in the last 20 years has the winner of the SAG award not won the Oscar. I feel pretty confident he'll win next week

1 year- the BAFTA gets it right, the next- SAG does... he's definitely improved his odds (had Brody won SAG- he would have locked up the Oscar- with Globe, Critic Choice and BAFTA, he was 3-0), but Brody's still the frontrunner... the SAG helped in the past- but Oscar voting ended last week, so SAG may not have an effect- usually, it's held much earlier, but the fire pushed it back.
