Also, he said in some podcast that he thinks he would be a more successful singer if he was straight. I mean, boy, you’re talented and all, but your success comes from you singing songs about bottoming and making music videos with you kissing other boys.

I can see a producer wanting to exploit the lgbt and teen girl demographic with a new artist and then came across Troye’s YT channel and be like “this kid can sing, is good looking, is gay and he already has a lot of followers who will consume his music”. It’s sad cause i truly believe he is very talented, but his whole career is built on the sole purpose of quedrbating.
i’m not coming for you but it seems sad that people complain about the lack of lgbtq+ representation in music and then when someone comes along that is queer and writes and sings openly about their experience it’s just dismissed as queerbaiting. if we’re gonna talk about queerbaiting let’s talk about all those artists etc out there genuinely queerbaiting and their lgbtq+ fans letting them get away with it
No, I’m not complaining about Troye himself. I’m complaining about producers that only want to exploit certain demographics and use people as instruments for their own means. I believe whoever “discovered” Troye as a singer just wanted a quick cash and that why he looked for an openly gay singer that already had some following. His career was built for queerbating, not because Troye wanted, but because the people behind him wanted.
Are you all forgetting about Sam Smith? He came out and still had a huge commercial success winning an Oscar even.

Lbr Sam Smith isn't as talked about as Troye Sivan in gay circles because he/they aren't attractive (not sure if Sam is still using nonbinary pronouns or not). He/they do get more mainstream attention though. Dancing With a Stranger is played nonstop on the radio. Meanwhile, the last Troye song I heard on the radio was....Youth?
I'm honestly not sure if Troye will ever break through to the mainstream. His music appeals to a very specific crowd and he lacks the star power that other acts effortlessly have. He's BY FAR the best of the youtube crowd though

Hope he doesn't feel like he has to start selling his body to get attention. Being a skinny twink is what made him unique! Not that I'd ever tell someone not to better themselves by working out. I just hope he's doing it for the right reasons
