I had to unfollow him already for all the right-wing bullshit he kept reposting. I suspect he’s been raised around Christian conservatives in the south who aren’t going to take kindly to his eventual coming out.
I’m curious if he himself has accepted his own sexuality, let’s say if he’s indeed gay whatsoever. He does follow best_of_grindr on IG and likes their posts though
I think so too… doubt he even cares about politics in any meaningful sense, but being from Missouri (youngest of 7!), you kind of absorb the opinions of what’s around you especially at that age and sometimes just reflect those opinions back to try and fit in.
The good thing about Purdue and the swim program there is even though they’ve had their fair share of hardcore Christians (David Boudia, Steele Johnson, etc), which can at times seem very pray-the-gay-away, they’ve also had many out divers in recent years who are welcomed with open arms. I think Tyler will do well there and formulate new or fuller views on things.
He was posting them on his Instagram story. There were a few bullshit posts about abortion and Planned Parenthood, then he shared that faux-outrage post by Benny Johnson of Turning Point USA who was pretending that Kamala Harris was somehow disrespecting troops by telling someone to enjoy the long weekend over Memorial Day.
He’s young and he’s got time to learn and come around, but as someone who grew up gay and closeted in a family who was in that constant conservative outrage mode over social issues, I don’t have patience for it when I see young (likely) gay people buying into it. The same people who attack Kamala Harris and abortion are the ones who would call him a faggot and deny his basic civil rights if they had their way.
