I do this , but I am an advanced pumper ....been pumping for over 10 years, regularly. I only use stretch cock rings. I would not recommend this if your a beginner.

pump often, not too much pressure till you know how you react, only use cockrings after pumping, silicone or rubber or leather snap off type, not metal solid ones that dont come off easy just in case. do not pump with them on, not yet anyways, advanced pumpers will use them while pumping, dont go there yet.

Ahh... okay.. I see... I was using a ring while pumping... but it's not hurting or anything like that... My dick did get a bunch of red specks on it... but that also happened with jelqing... is that normal? Well anyway... as long as I'm not in pain then I'm good, right?

It's best to wear the ring after pumping. Not to tight and not to loose. It should be snug. Lotions with healthy minerals will clear up your red specs.

In agreement with the other , since your a newbie, only use a ring (stretchy) after you have pump. If you able to stretch your ring over the tube while your still pumped to max while in the tube, this provides the best means for maintaining what you have achieved.

No you aren't supposed to use a cockring while pumping.
A cockring works by stopping some of the blood from flowing back out of the erection, and if you pump while wearing one you will significantly increase the chances of bursting blood vessels.
The danger is that you may not feel this happen.
I recommend that you take breaks every 20 mins (or less) and massage the penis (and scrotum) with a moisturiser (containing Vitamin E) for at least 5 mins between pumping sessions. Examine the skin and look out for blemishes or dark colouration, which if found is probably small blood vessel bursts and I highly recommend that you do not continue pumping (or use a cockring) for at least several days..... and if the patches of discolouration change or grow perhaps you should seek medical advice.
The manufacturers of these devices won't warn you of the dangers, disclaiming their responsiblity by claiming that it is a toy or some such other thing...
