What Do We Think About Mens Fashion Today?

High fashion today is no sillier than high fashion in any decade for the last half century. Pret a porter from lots of eras is OK. I was in my 20’s in the 1980s/1990s, and that’s kinda where I picked up my style, such as it is.
  • I work in what you might call the creative industries, so I don’t need to wear suits. I have three single breasted suits in black or charcoal, and a light suit in grey. I get lots of compliments on how sharp they look, so I guess I should wear them more often. They look great with a dark shirt.
  • Snapped up a beige tropical suit on sale that sort of makes me look like an ice cream vendor or Japanese railway conductor.
  • If I can’t wear jeans to work, I simply won’t go. Levi’s 504s. My husband recently snick some 502s into the cupboard, and this low-waisted bullshit leaves me pulling them up by their saggy ass. I got enough problems already without a belt around my thighs.
  • Jeans can dress up or down, and I do both. Jeans + blazer or suit jacket is my standard client presentation garb. Maybe a tie knotted loosely, but never a tight collar. My neck is too thick.
  • In the 90s, it became fashionable to wear suits/blazers with T-shirts. Not for me. T-shirts are for sweating into. Miami Vice can get fucked.
  • Oxford collars, always. Kent collars strangle me.
  • Khakis suck. Khaki jeans are acceptable, just.
  • Board shorts. My go-to summer attire.
  • Hate socks with athletic shoes if you’re wearing shorts. Trekking sandals FTW.
  • Blundestone boots in black. To paraphrase Clint Eastwood, you can have them when you pry them from my cold, dead feet. My feet are so large, few other leather shoes can contain them comfortably.
  • Have begun to wear polo shirts instead of T-shirts for kicking about or going out to a bar or such. Still on the fence about which I prefer.
  • Used to love T-shirts with provocative slogans or souvenirs of exotic locations. I recently decided they’re kinda tacky. Keep Calm and Keep Your Opinions to Yourself.
  • My husband has insinuated plaid casual shirts into my wardrobe. But they’re not very flattering for a fuller figure. He chooses RL or Hilfiger, both of whose pocketlessness annoys me.
  • I own a splendid leather blazer with a Prussian collar that officially qualifies as Tracht, or Bavarian folk attire. It gets an outing at Oktoberfest or the Christmas markets, for a giggle.
  • I own 20 pairs of the same black dress socks. No odd socks at my house, no sir-ee!
  • Sweaters and cardigans? Pah! Wear a coat of you’re cold.
  • In winter, I use Timberland-style parkas to keep warm. But treasure two elegant long cashmere winter coats, one from Melbourne and one from Edinburgh. Very chic.
  • Vintage silk dressing gowns. Don’t @ me.
  • And yes, Hawaiian shirts au go go. (Remember what I said about a fuller figure?). Nothing better than board shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. Please bury me in this outfit, after you’ve pried off the Blundestones.

Vintage dressing gowns for men. Now THAT is style.

I'm not a fan of the 'no socks' movement nor the shorter - almost capri style - pants n today's men's fashion. Maybe if I was in my 20's, I'd understand.
I love the capri pants with beautiful driving loafers. Color pop also helps!

Fashion is often dictated by ones geographical location and age

New York City Fashion, may generally differ from Montana / Florida or California Etc. If one liven in a 4 season location, ones wardrobe would so reflect. Crop Tops are nice, though I do not own any. But in NY to wear one outside from November to late April is unadvised.

I like suits; at least for work. If one is thinking suit fashion, then one would need a rotating supply.
Early Fall Suits / accessory colors tend to be more earth / rust / orange
Winter Suits are made of thicker material / woo, so they can only be worn in cold months
Spring Suits / colors - accessories probably a little brighter than winter to welcome the change in season
Summer lighter fabrics cotton - Linen
Definitely a few year round , work horse suites in the 200 G weight range ( get to know wool weights )
Throw in the special occasion suit / jacket for holidays - parties that get worn once a year
Top of with 40 pairs of shoes and this makes for a well rounded wardrobe

As some of you are younger / older than others, I want to impart something that was told to me by a wise man

FASHION changes season to season. That which is fashionable today, may be out of fashion tomorrow. While STYLE is eternal .
If you can figure out what this references, give yourselves a pat on the back

God, I just love linen. Where I live can be very hot and humid so it's just perfect. I just find it beautiful too, the marks, how it flows with movement. Since I found a large white fabric piece that was suposed to have been a suit for my father and had it made for me it has become a real adiction to me, even some linen socks I've got. I got to be formal most of the time so it's pretty fun. Here we got two large and intense seasons: summer and winter. So it works for about half the year. I love leather too, jackets, boots and often gloves if it gets too cold. Im partial to hats sometimes depending on their style, but a black cotton stetson with short sides pointing up is my go-to
