Ideally it's suggested that you use a ruler as well, but most don't. Laying down won't give you extra length. If anything, it could potentially take away from your BPL.

I measured it at 7 once. But didn't bother about bp or not, so not sure.

I only did it because it was a particularly good quality erection though; I think it's normally 6.5 ish.
