Why maintaining an erection is so difficult, even in your 20s and 30s?

I think it’s a boredom/over exposure thing..

Lots of guys can flick to a bit of porn whenever they want at work.. back in the day you couldn’t, it either wasn’t there or you were too busy worrying about losing your hand in that machine at work to day dream about ‘that’ girl/guy..

I thought I had a getting hard problem.. I’m 48 now.. until i drunkenly snogged a 20 something pretty girl outside a pub after a few too may drinks.. im not lying it got so hard I thought it was going to snap off and it lasted about 2 hours..

I reckon a lot of it is in our heads not our pants..

I've been having a lot of sex lately because I fear of missing out (on age, looks, hairline, body image etc.) so I've probably slept with 15 or more people in the 3 months of just this year. I'd have sex at least once a week and when traveling, maybe 5 days a week. This is not normal and this is overly promiscuous. Normal singles in my situation have sex probably 2 or 3 times a year. Even couples who're just starting a relationship don't have as much sex. Average straight guys have even less sex. I'm definitely overexposed to sex and porn. Something inside me though tells me it's not the only reason, so definitely there's something in my head too.

A sex forum is the worst place to ask this question, but how often are you guys having sex and what's your marital status?

I don't think sex once a week is excessive - back with my ex-girlfriend years ago, we did it 4-5 times a week (I'm late 30s now and haven't had sex since being single). However, that was with one person in an established relationship, for a relatively short routine of intimacy each night - so it didn't involve the excitement of a new partner and didn't consume our thoughts during the day. With a rotation of different partners, I can see where there might be an issue with over-stimulation.

I rarely watch porn, but if I spend too much time doing so (or chatting or otherwise being overly sexually stimulated) I find myself numbed and less likely to get a strong erection. If I overdo it I sometimes end up needing a few days to recharge - when forcing sexual stimulation just leaves me feeling further drained.

I find the best equilibrium is if seek out sexual stimulation only as needed (usually cumming every day or two if I'm naturally feeling horny) which means I don't feel overly aroused during the day, and I don't try to push it if I'm not really feeling it.

I've also realized that erection strength is both physical (relying on sleep, food and balanced hormone levels) as well as mental (I'm less likely to remain hard if I think about staying hard, as opposed to relaxing my mind into intimate fantasies).

I dunno about the starting relationship thing, seemed every 2 mins we did it but that was 20 years ago so I might have rose tinted glasses on!

To answer the question, 5 times per night, every night because I’m a proper man. Haha no I’m married and very happily, we only do it when we go on holiday and then it’s a 3-4 times a week. We go twice a year.. to me it’s a classic case of modern life getting in the way, it’s way too stressful, very rare we are both just chilling on the sofa, if you then throw porn into the mix to satisfy any cravings you might have it’s a recipe for no sex in my view.

I’m 99% sure the problem is in my head in one way or the other..

kinda funny one here. Me, 65, married 40 years to a great woman. We are both bi, sensuous, sexual and loyal. Sex here now, every 2 weeks, unless on vacation. BUT, I do viagra now, and man the orgasms are strong! The intensity of the sex is very high and we are pretty adventurous. Love to find another couple (both shaved and fit), but I find that impossible, and that is ok.
