I apologize if some people have a brain and like to discuss further things beside drooling over a very large bulge or an ass made of steel

what i find ridiculous is people thinking that because it's 2024 the world is super accepting and gay actors should have a much easier time landing gigs, especially big main character blockbuster gigs.
there's like 200 countries in the world and only about 30 with legalized same sex marriage. and marriage equality is literally only the tip of the iceberg, because it doesn't mean shit if the country hasn't passed any other laws to protect the lgbt community. not to mention countries with lgbt laws are still faced with plenty of opposition.
there's still countries that demand any movie that has any form of lgbt representation for it to either be censored or fully removed or they won't show the movie.
studio execs don't just think about what the liberal american audience wants to see. they gotta think what the conservative american audience want to see and what the audiences outside the u.s want to see. and those execs are, for the most part, old people, and a lot of them still have the mindset that a gay man can't lure in a female audience as a heartthrob and can't lure in a male audience as someone they aspire to be.
this type of discussion has been ongoing for like a decade and hardly anything has changed. and in another decade, maybe things will be slightly better, but it'll still be the same. so it's just the same conversation over and over again

First of all, as an American I tell you one thing: we don’t care about the rest of the world. Maybe we should, but executives will never make a movie and worry because foreign countries won’t buy it. If there’s one thing we know how to do is to live in our own small bubble and pretend there’s nothing outside our borders. Also in Hollywood they don’t give a shit about conservative Americans. Do you really think if executives cared about the “middle” American they would have released stuff like Black Panther or Bridgerton? The only thing that has a value in Hollywood is money. They will do whatever people want to see for money. That’s why today there’s so much inclusion and diversity in movies and shows. It’s all about social propaganda. The world is overly sensitive and Hollywood uses that vibe in its own favor trying to get money out of people. So since we have old British royalty played by black actors why can’t we have a gay “decent” actor playing a leading man part?

Yeah for sure he needs that big breakout, the point is why he hasn’t had that yet
Because it's kinda half luck tbh. Getting a role on a hit show is not often something you can necessarily plan for or predict. It's determined by the audience/ratings, despite what the showrunners or actors think will actually happen or how good the show is.

The closest he's got to that was Fire Island but that was way too niche and frankly "gay" to really lead to mainstream success unfortunately.

Which one do you go to? I live in WeHo. I’m not a member of Equinox, but if there’s a chance for me to meet Zane Phillips switching gym maybe I’ll do it hahahahahah

That's not true at all. Hollywood has a history of bending over backwards and catering to Chinese censors in order for films (particularly the blockbusters) to be released there...hence the lack of gay content in so many big-budget movies.

Idk, talking about "overly pc" and casting actors because they're "social cases" doesn't sound like brainy talk. I mostly just wanted to steer the convensation away from that and the implications that come with it.

Some Zane to keep it ot393049057_1012011496792520_1695895082019550856_n.jpg

To be clear, the main violent homophobes that Hollywood is scared of are the ones in the U.S.

This and the Chinese would censor everything anyways so Hollywod wouldn't give such a fuch
China is less of a worry these days. They've become so strict that a lot of hollywood movies don't make it. Hollywood still hopes to get their movies in, since it generates a fuckton of money, but there's bigger offenders. Places like russia or muslim countries would still allow 99% of movies in but demand edits.
It's still a LOT of countries that don't allow any form of lgbt representation in their movies, and if hollywood wants to make money in those countries they either gotta cut the scenes or simply not make them. The latter is often times the chosen option.
Streaming services have to do a bit less work. They just geolock the content so it won't show in those countries. The people in those countries wanting to see lgbt media on netflix might need to use a vpn to do so.
So it's still hard to get gay main characters and media focused on gay people from hollywood. You get it in tv shows because those end up being easier to not worry about international viewers. But with movies, they very much care about getting that movie in as many countries as possible so they can make as much money as they can in the box office
