Well the cast was like that because Jeff Davis has a reputation of hiring guys that he’d like to fuck (somewhat like Ryan Murphy). The show wasn’t gayer because of Network restrictions and because some of the actors wouldn’t do more explicit scenes at the time, despite of their sexual orientation (in cases like Colton, Charlie and Cody S) or rumors (like Tyler P)
Well, coherent plot and characters would've helped a lot. The whole show basically fell apart into an incoherent mess long before Andrew joined the cast. But the teasing/queerbaiting on that show was terrible, from the gay panic over the popularity of Sterek to the sidelining of gay characters like Danny. In the case of Sterek, the most plausible explanation I heard was that the character of Stiles, who was originally written as a supporting sidekick, was intended to be bisexual, but when Dylan O'Brien became one of the most popular stars on the show, the showrunners (or MTV execs) forbid that option. Which was weird, since the show's entire fanbase was teen girls and gay guys. But corporate media isn't nearly as gay friendly as it likes to think it is during Pride month.

Someone not knowing he’s not gay doesn’t mean he’s not out. Colton was always out, he just never publicize it.... but he also never hid it to family and friends. Andrew isn’t either.
Basically it’s like an “open door” policy. He’s not throwing it out there but he’s not hiding it either.
