The funny thing about guys being afraid for someone to see their dick because they are average is that the vast majority of guys I've seen my entire life are just that. Average. So they are afraid that someone will see that they are just like most other guys. I do have respect for the guys that don't give a shit. Another funny thing about it is that, at my gym at least, you'd have to go to the effort of trying to not be seen only to shower in open showers.
No. We were super comfortable. It seems like those born after 1978 are uptight.

Lately I have been seeing more young guys that appear to be fairly comfortable. They typically shower in a cubicle, although open showers are available, and wear a towel between the showers and lockers, but get naked by their locker to dry off. A few days ago, a young, very fit , guy hung his towel near the hot tob and walked away naked, away from the showers, about ten minutes later he returned, still naked to retrieve his towel.
They do NOT require jockstraps, so no. In my opinion, it should be a Federal law that guys wear jocks.

When you realize "normal" has a very broad range and you fall within it, you lose your reluctance to strip down. @arkie you fall outside that range, though, man!
Biggest respect goes to perfectly average sized guys who just change normally and don’t cover it up. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always nice to see an impressive one, but it’s the regular joes (Like me) just being comfortable in their skin who I admire the most.

Canada is a BIG country, I've been to a number of saunas, pools and gyms from West to central Canada and you get all sorts - some shy, some not.
I've been to a YMCA in British Columbia that had a steam,sauna,jacuzzi and row of open showers. Every guy there was relaxed and totally nude. All ages, shapes and sizes. I'm sure the regulars even just went there to hang nude socially instead of using the gym and pool.
And I've used steam/saunas in hotels where they are in the men's changing room and always been nude in them, as have others. It just depends on who's there and how shy they are.
It's a good point, obviously. I just enjoy making sweeping generalizations! : )
Just searched for this thread to post this. Just finished at my gym (the Y) and o go into the open shower room to shower. There is me (naked and 32 years old) and an older guy (naked) and two young guys that are friends maybe late 20s that are showering in their underwear. They look over at me and old guy visibly uncomfortable and just keep talking to each other. Old guy leaves and now it’s me and these guys. So odd to me to see people shower with their underwear on. Come on guys. We all have dicks.

When I was a teen I would avoid penis size comparisons because I knew I would be the smallest one, as I'm 2x3 inches soft and 5x5 erect. However, as I'm way older now, I'm even interested in comparing even though I know I'd be the smallest. I'm curious about men's soft size, not hard because I know most are way larger than mine.

I was overweight growing up and would dread the change room in gym and showers but as I got older and got in shape I have no worries. It surprised me when guys like these guys who are in really good shape are shy about stuff like this.
