Are Guys More Comfortable Naked In The Locker Room Than They Used To Be?

I have to say it's still a big no unfortunately. I'm one of the few at my gym that walks to the shower without a towel around my waist. I think part of it has to do with some of the cell phone use still. I've seen guys face-timing in the locker room...really?

What happens if someone snaps a photo or video clip of you nude in a locker room? Were you doing something wrong?

I have always been comfortable being naked in the locker room. We all have penises and balls, I’m not the biggest guy but I’m ok with what I have between my legs. Plus I wear really revealing underwear and have for a long time so people see my penis and balls plus my really skimpy bikinis, if they want to look I’m ok with that.

The YMCA I visit has signs posted forbidding "All Forms" of cell phone usage in the locker rooms. Rules like this have existed since cameras became incorporated in phones. ** privacy expectations ** Sneaky photography is the violation!

Reading through the thread I realized something:

The fact that the younger folk is actually in the gym, working out, trying to become more masculine and healthy is a greater act that being naked in the locker room...

And what does that judgmental mentality actual say about the older generation? Therefore I think it is justified for them to do the towel dance, because if you can judge him for not being naked, then what is stopping you from doing it when he does go bare?

Nudity between men is not the definition of masculinity, and should not be the standard to what boys are defined as men.

I would rather think we should be thankful for that effort, rather to judge them for doing a towel dance.

We only see that part of their lives... perhaps that same towel dancer rips of his cloths as soon as he enters his home.

Maybe that boy doesn't want to shame the tiny peckers being flaunt around? Who knows?

I don't know why the younger guys are so paranoid, and I don't know what could help them.

I think they are paranoid because gays started coming out of the closet and they realize how many gay guys there are out there and some of them are not comfortable being in the showers with another dude who light find them attractive.

Back in the early 90s when I was a teen nobody was out and I thought I was the only guy out there who was into other dudes. The only gays I had ever heard of when I graduated high school were Rock Hudson and Liberace. The idea that another guy in the gym at my high school or even the open showers in my college dorm might find me attractive or perhaps even want to suck my dick or fuck me in the ass never occurred to me and I suspect it never occurred to any of my schoolmates either. Back then we thought gays only existed in places like San Francisco and NYC.

Interesting views expressed @plaasboer25 & @Trevor … affirms my thoughts about the "loaded" nature of the question that began this thread. I'm not comfortable believing sexual orientation, body shaming, morality and modesty was the intended course of conversation. As I type theses observations, I realize my confounding issue of exhibitionism:expressionless:.

Having returned from the gym a couple hours ago, I'm considering another example of offensive locker room behavior. It may be more odd behavior than intentionally offensive … Two guys probably 30 years old enter the locker room to change into swimming gear - showers are required prior to entering pool area. They are deep in conversation as they choose lockers on opposite walls separated by another bank of lockers, which means their conversation volume increases. I have a view of each guy changing out of their street clothing. Guy #1 strips down to his underwear which extends to his knees, and pulls on swim trunks with half the legging length over his underwear (sorry, I may not be very fashion conscious - looked weird as hell to me, along with the lacking color coordination). Guy #2 strips down to his boxers, and wraps a large towel around his waist. I'm 10 feet away from him tying my sneakers, and watching him remove his boxers, and pulling-on his swim trunks while wrapped in the towel.

After reading many of the responses to this thread, I've become a bit more "understanding" about modesty behaviors and "fears" associated with nudity. I politely avert my gaze if I sense "naked fears". --- Now, as I stand naked in the locker room, "Am I being disrespected by these odd behaviors of modesty?".

It is situations like these where you need to raise an eyebrow of both for that matter...
I think there is a fine line between modesty and complete and utter fear.
The weird thing is, Why do we, the naked and comfortable ones, feel as if we are overstepping a very normal situation considering the environment we are in?

It is bullshit. Be Naked, Dont be naked, Just dont make me feel I am in the wrong for making my choice. Each one to their own!

As a younger male I would not shower naked in front of my friends or classmates. I could not keep the boner away. As a more mature adult I never have the opportunity. to be honest I would probably still have a problem with keeping the boner away.

:cool:I'm heading to the gym - thanks for the reminder!

I work at a university that, up until last summer (August 2018), had open communal showers in the gym. I would say a solid 80% of the college guys didn't have a problem showering naked. Interestingly, it always appeared to be the swim team that would only rinse off before and after their swim while wearing their Speedos (I did notice that they would strip all the way down if none of their teammates were around). With the new set up that features dividers and curtains, about 10-15% of the guys still shower with the curtain completely open. Another 20% or so walk to the towel rack located just outside the showers in the buff, while the remainder cover themselves and hook it outside their divider once behind the security of the curtain.

It's an interesting dynamic. Beauty is of course in the eye of the beholder, but as someone who literally doesn't have a "type," the overwhelming majority of the guys that don't strip down are not attractive. Needless to say, I've seen all but may 3-4 of the college hotties in the nude. The others can keep doing what they're doing, I suppose!

Ok guys, I am REALLY triggered right now. I moved to Antwerp (Belgium) recently and today at the basic fit gym I was changing at the locker room. I showered and then went to my locker, took off the towel and put on boxers. A guy saw me (probably same age as me, 22-25) and he told me “next time use a towel to change your underwear”. He wasn’t mean but he said it in a serious tone. I was shocked. I couldn’t reply anything, I was so shocked. He then took off his shirt, pants and went to the shower with his boxers on.
I should add that he looked like he was Muslim. I’m triggered.. so now I gotta hide myself in the locker room. Welcome to multiculti Belgium I guess?

What were other guys doing? If they were naked, I'd tell that guy that to stay out of the locker room if he's so offended by nudity. When in Rome... not the other way around. There's a limit to accommodation. It really pisses me off when any minority group tries to impose their views and ways on the majority. No one put a gun to his head to move to Belgium, so if he doesn't like the way things are done there, he can always get on the next plane out of the country. I find it hard to believe that the majority in any European country think the way this guy does.

Just out of curiosity, why the generalization and coded language ("welcome to multiculti (sic) Belgium"? I imagine it's more of a one off than anything, as you yourself have said Muslim's you encountered in Germany weren't like that. Ignore or respond, but either way, keep it moving.

At my gym, I've seen some Muslim guys from the Gulf states shower nude, while others shower in their underwear. I haven't had anyone tell me to keep my underwear on, but have had a white guy tell me that my Molton Brown body wash smelled unpleasant. My response: "You can either wait to use the shower when I'm done, or buy me something we both find agreeable for me to use when we run into each other in the shower." No need for me to generalize or be frustrated with all white men in the locker room over that comment. Who knows, others may think the same but keep their mouths closed.

It's a locker room. Both of you know that. Either way, resorting to coded language about immigration, cultural values, and whatnot shouldn't be the first thing to pop into your mind, unless you were hearing it from the same demographic on a regular basis.

Just food for thought...

You were much more pleasant about the asshole that bitched about your body wash fragrance than I could have been. I smell many things in a locker room that I may not particularly care for but I don't have time to be stopping and whining to someone about the fragrance something of theirs gives off then I must need to do more exercise or something that is more constructive use of my time.

If someone told me to change under a towel I’d tell them to fuck off. Unless there’s a sign specially banning any form of nudity, then who cares if your cock is out in a place where it should be natural to be naked. That guy who told you off is an asshole.
