historically this is what a lot of sexually fluid men and women did in most societies on the planet. the goal for most societies was to sustain itself, so even if you had relationships or sex with people of your same gender you still had a responsibility to procreate. this is likely a post-Abrahamic religious remnant of that. and i don't really see the issue with it.
