Basketball Shorts

When I was in high school, basketball shorts where short. They showed off a man's legs and ass. They were hot.

Now they look like the dude is wearing his grandmother's frumpy old culottes.

When did this change. And why? For those of us who remember, was there anything more glorious than Michael Jordan's ass?

Jordan was actually one of the pioneers for the baggy shorts movement because he wanted to cover up his compression shorts when he played and there was absolutely no freedom in that pic you had with magic johnson lol

I have long felt the way you have. It looks stupid, like you can only afford to wear your older uncles hand me downs 6 sizes too big and that you are told you will grow into them. I do not recall ever hearing about a dick slip with the short shorts.

I agree! (Same thing in tennis). Who in the fashion world decided that "shorts" that were long enough to go below your knees made ANY sense whatsoever for an athlete? I can't fathom why you'd want extra material flopping around your knees (which is esp irritating when the bottom of the shorts leg brushes up against the back of your knees.)

It's also odd that track and field sports gear has become MUCH tighter and form-fitting just when basketball (and ASSociated clothing) has become as baggy as your grandpa's ol' drawers. It's nuts.

Shorts dont look like skirts lol why should any basketball player wear tight ridiculous looking uncomfortable shorts I played basketball through the tight shorts era into the loose shorts era and i can tell you from personal experience baggier is better you should hold on to those old school pics tight and appreciate them because you'll never see short tight shorts again lol garunteed

No way to tell what may happen. Guys used to wear baggy gym shorts in the 40's, then shorter, tighter shorts arrived, now we're back to baggy. It's a cycle and short shorts will return once the clothing companies figure out the public wants some novelty. They'll get some super star athlete to do a campaign for short shorts and back they'll be. See Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-four" for thoughts on how these things return.

With the way that the tights, sleeves, and compression shorts have been taking over underneath the shorts currently, I could see some athletes changing to shorter just to cover their bulges. Even if it is just "to reduce drag".

Personally, I like playing in baggier shorts.
