This is true. And untrue. As they say in Hollywood, it's not what you know, it's who you know. Coming from a privileged, well to do, upper-middle class family and having connections like Shawn sure did help, but he also had the talent to go with it, which was a positive.

There are millions of bored, rich and narcissistic people who think their money can buy them fame, but they still have no talent, and never make it.

There are and have been plenty of people who have made a career off very limited talent. I love Kylie Minogue, but actually not a particularly good singer or dancer, and not her own primary songwriter. They literally made a song on her in 20 minutes to make money off a popular tv show and marketed her well in the aftermath. She is undoubtedly a legend and has earned her stripes, but if she auditioned for you without her time served youd be like "meh".

Basically, in terms of pure talent - Shawn isn't actually that good. He's an easy, good looking in a non-threatening kinda way vessel.
