In 1936 Buick produced the first 4 dr hotrod sedan the car world had seen in years. Here is that wolf in sheep's clothing Buick Century : top speed 100 mph from a straight 8, 5.2 liter engine. It was not until 13 years later that the Oldsmobile models 88 and 98 surpassed this 100 mph speed with their 5 liter V8 OHV Rocket engines. Cadillac achieved the same result in 1949 with its 5.4 liter OHV V8 engine. 1949 was the year that the race for speed arguably began among all car makes. Chrysler was soon to follow with their hemi engines and Lincoln with its flathead 5.4 liter V8.
