NCbear (who knows these probably drive like 1950s pickup trucks, but who is astounded by the panache and majesty of top-tier automobiles from this era)
I'd appreciate if every posting has a short comment with some information about the car shown. And if the photos are yours or you know the story of the photo please state where it was shot (i.e. when there is a specific background/landscape in the pic).
Here's one, you possibly never heard of. A Wartburg 313 Roadster, built in post WW2 East(!) Germany(!)
About 500 units of this beautiful roadster have been built Roadster between 1957 and 1960 and the car reached respectable 140 km/h (which is, for people living in medieval non-metric countries, about 86 mph). Today it reaches respeactable six-digits prices in international auctions.
This is one of the finest production cars ever made. At its time there was nothing above it except for an Rolls Royce. An average equipped 500 SEC was about 110.000 Deutschmarks. The next car (not counted sports cars and super cars) was a Rolls at about double the price.
The C126 (the coupe of the W126 limo) was introduced in September 1981, and is regarded as one of the best cars ever in respect to build quality, reliabilty, consumption (17.5 miles per gallon (US)), driving comfort and agility, and luxury.
For anyone into 1960s (and a few 50s) cars and southern California, the movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set to open this week. Set in the summer of 1969, the film stars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.
I was expecting a slew of mid-sixties Mustangs and VW Beetles with a couple of 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Airs, but from the trailers there is a veritable treasure trove of eye candy for the car enthusiast. The video looks like a closed set on Hollywood Blvd. from the movie shoot.
