Carl Nassib—first Out Active Nfl Player

I sometimes, professionally, wish I understood the appeal of spectator sports. I guess my disconnect is when the outcome of the game truly influences the lives of the greater whole and when it does not. In this case his effort might change some minds. Brave to put his livelihood on the line. Is he particularly good at this sport? I guess every little bit helps to chip away at stigma.

I can't say for sure its the same on TV, but just like how a live concert can really get the crowd pumping, there's something about watching two individuals or teams going head to head that can be amazing to experience. For example, the Superbowl in 2017 when the Falcons were leading the patriots 28-3 in the first Half. For the Patriots to not only catch up and force an overtime, but to also win. That is something that im sure all football fans can appreciate, no matter who they rooted for. That takes grit and heart.

Regarding the stigmas, I think the gay community was always seen as "the other" and we learned to embrace that. We rebel against gender norms, heteronormative society, etc. But sometimes, I think we unintentionally place ourselves in our own boxes. So having people like Carl Nassib come out is a great reminder that Gay men are as diverse in our abilities and interests as our straight counterparts. That's a given intellectually, but it's always good to have an example to point to from a pragmatic sense.

When I was kid just figuring myself out, I’d have loved to have seen football players like Carl Nassib and Michael Sam come out. Not all gay boys identify with the celebrated faces of LGBTQ+ culture in the media. Life is a spectrum of different types of people, none necessarily better or worse than others - and that goes for gay guys too. However, Nassib’s political allegiance would’ve made teenaged me puke lol

I don't get what is hard to understand about people enjoying sports. I assume you watch at least some form of spectator activity, be it sports, drag race, reality tv, e-sports, etc. People get invested in competitions, rooting for their favorites, it's just a different venue and skin from genre to genre.

Getting so absorbed in it that it runs you life is one thing, but the appeal in a general sense should be easy enough to see.

I don’t expect everyone else to understand the pointlessness of caring. That was never my point. My point was that I’ve often encountered the assumption. A year later they finally realized that I wasn’t just gay, but didn’t care. It’s truth I didn’t realize the patriots were not baseball. I’m fine being the embarrassment in such a conversation. I’m not fine being put on the spot because I’m assumed to should have known.

I guess commercials suck. I’m glad we agree on that. I think Beckham’s tattoos are silly.

Yay. There's that validation I've been longing for.

Oh kids, it's going to require more than some sport ball person to get the heteros to understand we are humans too. And if the white heteros weren't already too busy compiling the ways that nonwhite heteros are inferior subhumans too, maybe that would mean something. As it is- with those in power, there's always some trait or variant requiring upgrades for some arbitrary reasons

In the absence of any new Carl interviews or dish, I'm delving into the archives. Evidently there's some popular NFL-related show called "Hard Knocks" that's been around for a zillion years (unsurprisingly, I'd never heard of it), and our Carl made a splash when he appeared on the show in 2018.

'Hard Knocks' got off to a great start thanks to Carl Nassib

Less surprising is that Carl is a Swiftie -- I didn't even know what that was (Taylor Swift superfan) until this year. Carl: "I met Taylor Swift and before the concert, and I was like, 'I need to buy a Rollie so she knows I got it." Ugh.

But to his credit, that's about as straight-pretending as we know he's ever been, and even then I'm not sure what he meant by "got it."

Here's potty-mouth Carl on how much time people waste on social media, from the show's end credits: https://twitter.com/JimmyTraina/status/1027026530646540288?s=20

I should make this my ringtone or maybe my mantra.

Sports for show are silly.

Some team or another just won the super bowl. Great. I’m justified and fulfilled, apparently. The Mets or the Broncos just won the World Series. Probably someone Olympic’d his or her ass off during this whole concern. I only care about the person sitting in front of me. If anyone wants to address actual human concerns I’ll be right there for it. Who shaved time off their pole vault is irrelevant to me. Irrelevant to me and my purchase. Or tuning in on propagated commercialism. When I hear how much the IOC and host countries spend, I call them all idiots. Including the fools who press the record button on their DVRs.

Imagine how much stupid wealth is spent broadcasting the olympics.

agreed.. he so freaking hot damn.. i want kiss him so bad lol

Why stop at kissing? 3d197c703094df1ffe7556e0686f4a84.jpg

He really is one of the best-looking players in the NFL today. I think he's cuter than Gronk personally. And he's on our team! It's like the wildest gayboy fantasy when you're 18: that the dreamiest football player could secretly be gay. And he is!

I also really like his subtle Philly accent. I'm not talking a Rocky-style Philly accent. Just the subtle vowel and consonant signifiers that someone is from the greater Philly area. It's very sexy on him.

Some people get it, and some people don't. It's ok that you don't lol.
