Carl Nassib—first Out Active Nfl Player

For some reason that makes him sexier
It's something I find quite common, people not realizing that there isn't a one right way to be gay. Like, good for Carl being a lowkey gay guy. And good for Gus being a thirsty gay who loves to have fun. At the end of the day does it matter? Does it really matter?
Carl's art museum Instagram stories today were a nice touch. Renaissance man!

I certainly appreciate a hottie who’s cultured!

So, I've heard that there's this homophobic trope that one of the reasons straight guys might be hesitant to have a gay player on their team is the fear of taking a shower with them. And people say oh that's so homophobic and old-fashioned. But these forums are filled of stories of people surreptitiously checking out others in the showers. Doesn't that mean it's a legit concern?

Believe me, straight men are checking out other men in the showers too ... but it's more out of measuring up curiosity / envy, than anything else.

If a straight man has issues with gay men in the showers, it's because they're afraid gay men will treat them the same way those straight men treat women.

No. Because straight men check out women all the time. They may not be in the showers with them, but best believe they are checking them out. Just like HDbiker said above, homophobia in straight men is often just fear that they'll be treated the same way they treat women on the regular.

It’s a matter of respect, and let’s be honest a lot of the guys on forums here don’t represent most gay men. Thank God. There’s voyeurs here too, which if caught could be charged with a crime. They shouldn’t be afraid of a gay teammate, they should be nervous around a gay pervert they don’t trust.

Straight guys who worry about stuff like this act like their dick is going to fall off if a gay guy looks at it in the shower. The stories you read here and that happen in real life are about consensual encounters. They're obviously not about assault nor are they even about propositioning anyone who clearly isn't already interested. Gay men aren't insane; we don't go up to random straight guys in locker rooms and grab them by the pussy. Cruising is an elaborate series of returned glances, nods, and gestures. The worst any truly straight and uninterested man would experience is a guy sneaking a glance at his package. And like I said, that doesn't make it fall off.

Looks like Carl has helped move along a trend:

Predators prospect Prokop announces he is gay

Nashville Predators prospect Luke Prokop on Monday became the first active player under NHL contract to come out as gay.

Prokop, 19, made the announcement in an Instagram post.

"It has been quite the journey to get to this point in my life, but I could not be happier with my decision to come out," Prokop wrote. "From a young age I have dreamed of being an NHL player, and I believe that living my authentic life will allow me to bring my whole self to the rink and improve my chances of fulfilling my dreams."

Good for him. It strikes me as even a bigger step to come out in the NHL than in the NFL. Those guys don't mess around with their sticks.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were in touch before the announcement, with this Luke guy asking for advice. At any rate, his last paragraph seems modeled on part of Carl's announcement giving props to those outside of sports who paved the way.
