Charles Melton (riverdale)

I agree with a previous post in that I could see Melton as being the standout nomination for this film in the best supporting category.
It feels insane that he could ever be considered for an award. His performance felt like a bad impression of Slingblade and completely took me out of the movie -- which was really boring, BTW.

All the more reason why it was important not to cheapen the movie with a comical prosthetic. A real dick would have been best, no dick at all better, a fake stupid dick that just overshadows and detracts from an otherwise great movie is the worst.
I don’t understand how you could have this take if you’ve actually seen the movie. The only reason to think like this is if you’re approaching a film for its male nudity first and foremost, and for its story second.

I saw the movie in theatres with friends who didn’t even notice there was frontal nudity; I did, and assumed it was a prosthetic, but it certainly didn’t overshadow or detract from the movie. (The same way that if a character gets injured in a movie I assume it’s makeup or special effects, not the actor actually cutting off their finger… it doesn’t suddenly take me out of the story whenever there’s movie magic involved.)

I believe you missed the point. The oversize prosthetic was the director's disclosure and pulling back the curtain as to the real motivation behind the 36-year-old woman's interest in a 13-year-old boy.

But I didn't base my opinion on a previous performance and for that matter, neither would the Academy.

This story has been ongoing for thirty years with the populist opinion that this was a victimless crime, yet the film takes a present-day position and challenges that notion, for Melton's character, (based on Fualaau), is suffering from PTSD as a result of what took place 23 years prior at such a young age.

That said, I think Melton did a very good job of portraying that and combined with the new take on an old story is what members could be drawn to.

Omg it doesn’t matter let’s go back to talking about Charles dick prosthetic or not

SAG doesn't allow unsimulated sexual actions, you can go frontal or erect if you want to
well, I doubt they would put two actors (especially a prestigious Oscar winner) through the awkward situation of having to make a scene with a real erect dick

What's Charles Melton's sexuality?
If these actors taught me something is that you never know, I still remember when Kate Winslet said she knew actors that were afraid to come out and all of a sudden half of male Hollywood posted their "girlfriends" the next day

I don't think it's that black and white. Whilst some men might be genuinely scared to come out, others are coerced to stay closeted by their agencies, and others just old fashioned private about their personal lives.

true, that's why I said we'll never know
