Colton underwood- american football player

People learn from their mistakes. They paid the price. Both accepted and moved on. We can now forgive each side. It's a new beginning for them both. If they make the mistake again, that'll be a pattern, but for now we can have a little sympathy towards them both.

Those of us who are white, muscular, and straight passing are just as deserving of support. Coming out is a journey for us too. That’s the point
I agree. I have to imagine for those who are muscular and can pass for straight have to deal with the extra expectation that you are always surrounded by women or expected to be married to a woman and start a family. Your "in the closet burden" may be different than this who can't pass but it's still a burden. I can sympathize with that.

That said, I think it is also fair to mention something. The muscular, white, straight passing guys, especially the white, have always received more immediate support from the community than anyone else, and if you white and muscular the divide is even larger. Colton will receive all of the support all of the that Michael Sam and Jason Collins didn't get and we all know why. The public face of the community has always been or leaned white, which is unfortunate given that A LOT of its culture comes from the Black members.

This also ties into a superficial problem the community has. I haven't paid much attention to Colton before but I've heard any the questions stuff he did. I doubt any of that will be address, just like Aaron Schock. Scared and in the closet he may have been but he actively worked against the community and then made zero effort to address or rectify it. But because he is white and muscular, no one says anything.

This is an issue within the community. It's not Colton's fault, or yours, or the fault of anyone else that comes out and fits the white, straight passing, and muscular description. It's a problem within the community that needs to be address for anything to change. Everyone that comes out, public figure or not, straight passing or not, muscular or not, and regardless of race deserves the same amount of support.

Oh my goodness, thank you for saying it better than I can. The lack of nuance whenever a traditionally attractive guy get's criticized is madness.

I've been so tired of the "so what" responses when it comes to politics or the treatment of others.

I have to say, Colton does nothing for me attractive wise. He just looks like the typical loud, white, muscle power bottom circuit queen.

Hope I'm wrong, but he's already hitting those gay stereotypes of being closeted, living a lie while involving others and whoring for attention.

"I'm sorry for any pain and emotional stress I caused. I wish it wouldn't have happened the way it did. I wish that I would have been courageous enough to fix myself before I broke anybody else."

Literally just ONE example of him trying to take ownership. Who’s to say what he and Cassie spoke about privately and what his apology to her consisted of? Definitely not a bunch of horny gay men looking for jerk off bait.

It isn’t his responsibility to apologize to the world for things he did that have nothing to do with us. It was a horrible series of events that he seems to have acknowledged. He seems to want to move forward, and so does she. Why not let them?
Because half the community in this thread seems hell bent on finding a reason to hate a hot young white guy who’s getting a lot of attention and applause for doing something that many of us have had to go through. Getting a lot more support as well. Envy and jealousy is what it is, and it’s a stain on our community of which he is now part of.

Bravo to Colton for coming out!!! It's very hard for him to do that since he's famous and very attractive. I am so happy for him that he doesn't have to hide any more, and his big burden has been lifted off from his shoulder. I don't think there is anything wrong with being gay. I believe that gay people are born that way not just because they want to be gay, just as straight people are born as straight. We should respect all people for who they are whether gay or straight.

A lot of people are calling for a gay Bachelor show: It’s time for an Actually Gay season of The Bachelor already

How do you guys feel about that?

I think it could be great. The formula would have to be adjusted a bit so contestants don't fall for each other (they should spend less time together without the lead), but I see no reason why we can't have a gay Bachelor.

This is really unnerving. I know WOKENESS has turned many people's brains into Jello, but this is really getting out of hand. I'm not American, but I can't imagine how hard it must be for a white guy to live there when everyone think it's okay to hate on them just for being white. You don't fix racism with more racism. And yes, I believe you can be racist towards any race, including white people.

I can see how a lot of people would envy him, but I honestly feel sorry for him. He had to hide a huge side of himself for 23 years (says he's known since he was six), and even considered killing himself. He forced himself to be on the Bachelor and even thanked God for "making him straight" when he thought he had fallen in love with Cassie. That's probably why he acted so irrational and toxic after breaking up. What he did is NOT okay, but everyone deserves a second chance.

SJWs believe that once you make a mistake you should be SHUNNED forever, but I think we should take a more humane approach and allow people to learn from their mistakes and not cast them out.

EDIT:
I'm pretty sure he's not the only gay or bisexual guy on the Bachelor franchise. Robbie (from JoJo's season) was pretty much outed at some point (by a fellow contestant but he hasn't come out), and Daniel (from JoJo's season as well) is likely gay or bi too. A ton of women have come out as bisexual, but I guess it's harder for a bi guy to come out.

You come from a place of empathy, something that is harder and harder to come by these days.

As for people believing that once someone makes a mistake that they should be shunned forever, this book should be required reading:

It’s terrifying how people are so quick to hide behind their computers and condemn people over mistakes. I think it makes people feel powerful and important, which is why we’re seeing people try to cancel other people almost daily now.

Sarah Paulson, an out lesbian actress, was recently the victim of people trying to cancel her over the most ridiculous thing. They felt she wasn’t enough of an LGBT ally or something.

People have lost it.
