Robert Hunter wrote the lyrics. He passed away three days ago. I was blessed to meet him and chat on a few occasions.

“Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell. Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.”

… kriminèl...
… haitian creole lyrics...
the memorable haitian compa style which deeply influenced my island music during the 70s... continues to produce serious potential killer sounds like this one...
caribbean creole languages emerged during the 17th century...
the haitian one is close to very close to the martinican one... and at a first glance... it's possible for me to understand without difficulties maybe 60% of the lyrics involved in this song… lol...
this being said… creoles from saint lucia… dominica and guadeloupe are definitely closer to mine…
 haïti

… pirouli...
now this is the classical compas style… the one on which my parents frequently danced during the 70s... lol...
and yes… lol… I prefer this sound to the previous [already superb] one… lol...
I highly suspect this song to be erotic/sexual as it's about a lollipop hidden in a man's pocket and that the woman dancing with this man wants to suck this lollipop...
I have to listen to better though to be sure of my thinking...

… doucine...
and to end this sunday evening jam session... of course, lol… the good old zouk style from my island...
I listen to way more zouk than compas maybe because of the percussions sounds emerging generally more during the music than in compas tunes...
thus this is cleary the case in this "doucine"... sweetness…
particularly when the african drum begins to pulse… lol... this is when I definitely know why I like so much zouk… as this instrument doesn't play in compas sounds...
thank you, lpsg friends!
have a nice week!
kissss!
