Finally, something I know a little bit about.
The castrati were generally selected as youths, generally by their impoverished families, who saw a way to rise from the ranks of being impoverished. They did not continue growing through life, but, on average, the castrati did live significantly longer than uncastrated men. What is also curious, from The Great Singers is that many of them had numerous female admirers with whom sexual encounters of a sort took place. The castrati tended toward heaviness and lethargy so I think their appeal was more socioeconomic than physical.
The last surviving castrato was Prof. Alessandro Moreschi who was a member of the Sistine Choir and alive in the era of primitive acoustic recording. In 1903, the pope enacted a ban on recording the Sistine Chapel Choir in performance and thus there were only so many different records available, though they were listed in the Victor catalogue as late as 1923. If you are interested in hearing the eerie bleat of a male soprano of long past era, every record Moreschi made is available on one cd from the Opal label and a well-stocked, big-city record shop should have it.
I would say don't spend your money on this one. Moreschi was hardly one of the great castrati and, apart from its historical and curiosity value, it is a serious disappointment.
In terms of losing weight...over the last year I have lost in excess of 90 pounds and yes, it does get longer as you lose weight, but this is just enhancing what's there, not an actual increase in length. And, ironically, squats do seem to do more for upper body development than many specific upper body exercises.
