Does The Little Mermaid Have A Chance To Be A Hit ?

This entire thread is a bunch of cowardice white gay racists trying to find a polite way to say I don’t want to see a black woman play a white fictional character. Yet you have been fighting the Egyptians over CleoPatra for centuries. You want the world to see white people as the only people that matter. You mock The Hawaiian people complaining about Lilo and Stitch (who have every right to be upset) and one of you actually said Hawaiians come in multiple colors yet the film is all pale Asians that look nothing like the Pacific Islanders the characters were actually based on. you guys are a joke. You’re so oppressive for people that have been trying to compare 400 years of torture, rape and slavery to gay rights. Put down the poppers and think about others for once.
get their fvcking ass cus what the hell am i reading... it's definitely giving white supremacy in here.

I finally had a chance to see the movie today. It didn’t knock off my socks, but it was ok. I mean it was a movie for kids after all, what did I expect? The special effects looked pretty cheap. From a movie that takes place in the ocean I would have expected much more than that. Same thing with Aquaman. In the end it was fine. Definitely not an amazing movie. But not even the worst I’ve seen in my entire life. Also am I the only one who thinks that the actress who played the lead in the movie sounded just like Katie Holmes?? It was uncanny

For me I believe its about nostalgia. People like things that remind them of a "better time", they like the familiar, they like things that look and sound like they do. This is not in any way surprising. Its human. If the audience was primarily Chinese, it'd likely have more Chinese actors involved. I wouldn't expect Bollywood to cast white actors in reboots. And that's perfectly fine.

But yes, some people are racist. I always wonder what drives it though.

It's almost like you are shocked that a primarily white country , shock horror, frames things from a white perspective. It is fair? Not for black people. Does it make sense? Sure. Japan and China are very Asia centric and nobody demands they change.

The west hating itself is the real issue here.

re you for real??? The only reason they cast American actors in American movies is because the movies are “”American”” indeed. The production companies are from here and they need to be on the same page to shoot the movie, with people speaking the same language otherwise it would be a formula for disaster; beside being incredibly more expensive. Imagine if they cast all actors who spoke a different language from the director or even worse if the actors spoke all different languages from each other. Then they should hire so many translators and that would cost so much more beside the fact the costs would increase for delayed shoots for sure.. And it’s not just an American thing. Movies from all over the world work the same. Idk where you’re from, but I’m sure they make movies mostly everywhere. For example I’m sure a German movie has only people who speak German in it or a Chinese movie casts Chinese actors. Common sense. Reality. Your comment moves the needle a little bit too much on the opposite direction, which is just as bad as things used to be. Tbh I consider it a b***hurt comment
They dont have the budget. American movie companies have the money.

And you see if the film is translated, even if it is synchronized. It is a different thing if the movie is in your own language.

Americans are more represented than Chinese people in movies. The Chinese movies are usually only successful in China. The movies have often american history and themes and the world is not represented in it.

If you support diversity, equtity and inclusion, you have to give the movies to diverse countries, so that everybody can see some movies from their perspective. For example, one blockbuster is shoot in Africa and by African directors another by Asians and so fort. Every country should be able to tell their stories.

It is always an American perspective and they are always the good guys.

I dont care about a black women. I just point out your racist hypocrisy and I will continue to do it. The company is racist and anti LGBTQ and celebrates itself as fighting against oppression.

Yet you have been fighting the Egyptians over CleoPatra for centuries. You want the world to see white people as the only people that matter.
It is a different dynamic because of the reasons I explain below about some black racist Americans that attack Egyptians.

In addition to this, I have not fought anyone. Furthermore, there is not something as a hive mind of a race. To think that is in itself racist.

Egyptians see themselves as white, so do many Arabs. In contrast what Americans believe about them. Americans dont see them as white. And they complained about a black Cleopatra.

The reason is that some American black people see Egyptians as Colonizers and stealers of their culture.
The so called "Black Israelites" or the "Nation of Islam" of Malcolm X. The nation of Islam see the prophets including Muhammad as black and they see the Arabs and Jews as stealers of their culture.

You would know that if you cared about other cultures which you dont.

You mock The Hawaiian people complaining about Lilo and Stitch (who have every right to be upset) and one of you actually said Hawaiians come in multiple colors yet the film is all pale Asians that look nothing like the Pacific Islanders the characters were actually based on. you guys are a joke.

If you see racism where there is none, you have a racist bias and also the people that liked your post.

I dont care if they are white or not, because I dont watch the movie nomatter what cast it has, because Disney is a racist and anti-LGBTQ company. I dont support that stuff. You still dont seem to care even with the proof in this thread.

I pointed out your hypocrisy, yes. You are racist if you dont complain with the same vigor about Lilo and Stich when the roles are reversed.

You’re so oppressive for people that have been trying to compare 400 years of torture, rape and slavery to gay rights. Put down the poppers and think about others for once.

Than quote where I have dont this. If you dont do it , I take it as a confession that you lied.

I pointed out that a lot of people here in this thread are very American centric and also your racism and their racism. You are so American centric that you dont realise the hurt that your are causing to other countries like Egypt or the Chinese Uyghurs in failing to speak out on that stuff and still supporting it.

You make someone a savior (Disney and Netflix), who is the opposite of that.

get their fvcking ass cus what the hell am i reading... it's definitely giving white supremacy in here.
You are a racist if you see that vibe.

Sorry that I pointed out the racism of your beloved company Disney. That must be very hurtful for you. Indeed. So they may not be able to support the oppressing of Muslims anymore.

The international controversy over Disney’s Mulan, explained

I always wonder why people cry racism in a movie of a company that is openly racist and also anti LGBTQ in other countries. Callmedave already admited his hypocrisy but he thinks everybody is hypocritical. That is not true. Only these Disneyfans and some media outlets are that in that case.

So what are you trying to say? That American movie production companies should invest their own money giving work to people of other countries, cast director, cast and crew who are not American, so that Africa, China and so on can tell their own stories with our money?? Sorry, if I was mistaken I apologize. I was just trying to summarize the point of your comment

Just watched the whole movie. Melissa McCarthy had no impact as Ursula, she didn't look scary at all. Maybe since the animated version was really good that's why this live-action paled in comparison. She just didn't have that sass and ferociousness in her. Also, why was she fully clothed underwater?

There were moments when Halle Bailey had zero expression on her face especially for the scenes that were intense.

Javier Bardem was great as Triton and Jonah was great as Eric. Awkwafina was just okay and her rap song was a little too much.

The casting forced the whole diversity trend by Triton having daughters with different ancestry, he is Latino but he had Indian, Russian, Asian, African mermaid daughters, it looked funny. They also made sure that all the black characters were not villains. Eric's stepmother was supposed to be a Queen of various territories but she had zero authority and was so kind and supportive all the way (she didn't even look like she prohibited the prince) as compared to Triton who was King of the sea and was protective of Ariel.

I'm not white and I'm not racist either. I really think the movie has a lot of low moments - it's too long, too dark, and the performances of Ariel and Eric are not up to par. Although Ariel's voice is gorgeous, and the love story between her and Eric is better than in the original movie, the original movie was not really about Ariel and Eric, but rather about Ariel and King Triton. Ariel, Ursula, Sebastian, and King Triton are the best aspects of this movie, but I don't think Ariel's performance was convincing enough to surpass even the animated version. For me, the problem with this movie lies with the director. He tends to make flat movies and is the same guy who directed the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Heya, I know I’m late to the thread, but this is a perfectly fair point you’re making. It’s worth noting that the guy you replied to wasn’t referring to folks like you who had your own criticisms and didn’t complain about Ariel’s skin color. He was specifically talking to the ones who were throwing hissy fits about Ariel. And that’s something very much worth calling out.
That being said, you make fair points! I don’t agree with them personally, because I love the movie, but I can see how you might not.

The Little Mermaid is doing quite well at the box office now. It made 95 millions at the box office. Conservatives must be pissed. Its nice that the movie did well. So, racist people wont be able to say something like,'' noboby wants to see a black mermaid.'' Many people, including the cast were possibly afraid that this remake might end up a flop. Its not a flop. We will see next week if people still supports the movie. The movie is doing well in north america. But is supposedly not doing as well internationally. So in the end, The Little Mermaid remake will possibly an average hit. The buget of this movie is 250 million. We will see if the move will be able to recuperate that.

At least The Little Mermaid remake avoided the BROS flop treatement from last year. You possibly remember what conservatives said about BROS. They said '' you see, nobody cares about gay men in movies. Nobody wants to see it. So the movie floped. This is what you get when you go woke. That movie is all about the gay agenda. They throw homosexuality down our throat. What Hollywood have become. They lost it. We dont wanna see that.'' ect...

Even with all the haters, The Little Mermaid was spared and was able to be a hit anyway. The cast must feel relieved.
And fortunately, “Red, White, and Royal Blue” ended up coming out later and was a huge streaking hit on Amazon Prime. I loved that movie!
And yup, even with all the conservative trolls calling the movie a “flop,” it ended up doing perfectly fine after all. The trolls were is MASSIVE denial and were sooooo determined to call it a flop lol.
