Well, I hope his veteran step father and military academy middle school ("for naughty boys") did enough to prepare him for what to expect because I don't think his combat simulation Twitch streaming did.
I think he feels if he does Army he'll redeem himself. He has always said since his first breakup with Jackson that he wanted to go to the military, so I guess he'll get it out of his system.

What do think he's running from, other than growing up?

Going into the military (if that's what he really is doing) will either get him to pull his messy vapid life together or hell come out of it with his douchebag personality firmly cemented and possibly a drug or alcohol problem.

I think this will be good for him.
