Sorry but that was so embarrassing and pathetic for Macron. He was DESTROYED by the people of France for being there in the first place. I lost all feeling for him. He was desperate

I don't know myself either, and I am French too ... lol ... but if he haven't been present there would have been another group of people blaming him for no being there and supporting the team. French people are never satisfied ... they always have to find a reason to complain ... typically French ...
We can only speculate but If I could may a call it might have to do with the Qatargate. Even though it's the national team and should be supported by everyone seeing a politician(and one of the most important in the world)who visits Qatar during the worst scandal in the EU isn't the best thing.I am not saying he is doing something illegal even behind doors but it's bad timing.
Of course though it might have nothing to do with it and it's just another overreaction.

Qatargate has nothing to do with France ... that s another situation that have to be dealt whithin the EU and the people involved in that corruption ... but President Macron is a bit too tactile with M'Bappé ... and imagination interpretation go wild ...

I'm French too and I don't appreciate your previous comments. The fact is that Macron isn't the president of French nation : he was elected for the second time because there was nobody else to take the seat not because he would be the best for the job, and when you watch this liberal puppet making his own publicity during an international sport event, French citizens can think he had better stay in France to try to rule the country properly. French people have reasons to be not satisfied and to complain about their government and his chief, even when he tries to make believe that he would be friend with a national icon like M'Bappe. Pityfull...
Interesting. Best I could recall reading over the years was that he was not terribly popular for how he dealt with the welfare of working people, regarded as to unempathetic and heavy handed with protesters. However, when the election system worked its way through, the French people could chose between him or someone believed to be too extreme. Mrs. Le Pen. The French people unenthusiastically chose the sensible elitist. But that was a while ago, I think. I did not know if he continued to remain unpopular and how unpopular he was.
Is my assessment correct? Don't want to spread ignorance if I am wrong.

When Macron won for the first time it was against Marine Le Pen, five years ago. Then he ruled the country without being very popular because he didn't take measures in favour of citizens belonging to poor or modest social background (it followed the revolt of the Gilets Jaunes, for example) while the price of life was more and more expensive in time of crisis. So he decided to give peanuts, I mean a little of money, to keep his seat whereas changing his way of ruling the country. But the people didn't forget he prefered to look after the fate and fortune of rich people, that's why they had the choice in 2022 between too candidate's from the extremes against Macron, Marine Le Pen at the right time, Jean Luc Melenchon at the left side. So lots of people thought they had actually no choice and voted for Macron without being convinced of his legitimacy.
Well, my dear French friend, we are an ocean apart, but it sounds like we can share our general conempt for our highest officeholders. Hurray for the Republic!
That said, I would much rather see yours naked than mine. Though the Brits...hmnnmmm. Now that is something tasty to look at...

That's certainly a (reductive) way of presenting things... anyway people were doing the most with his interaction with Mbappe. He hasn't been destroyed in any meaningful way and most people have better things to do than over analyze that like how to get a better salary or where to get sexy pictures to jerk off to (given the site we are currently on).
