By doing what you did you gave him all the pricing power at the start And he can set any unreasonable price. At the very least you should have countered with a very low offer of 25% of what you’re prepared to pay and see if you can negotiate to an agreed price that is within your limit. At least this way you gave it a good shot.

Meh. I’ve dealt with too many dudes in OF who charged stupidly high amounts, and WAY less than $600, and never bothered making anything after getting the money. A person gets a little jaded after a while.
