Euphoria On Hbo

Is this actually new, though?

I think the only thing social media has done is intensified things and especially added instantaneous nude-sharing / exploitation to the mix in a way that wasn't there before.

Some stuff in the show is definitely added for theatrical effect. The webcam storyline is a bit much and while Nate's earlier toxic masculinity storyline (especially when hanging with his boys and discussing girls as objects) was accurate, his descent into psychopathy is an extreme example. If you take those two elements out, the show doesn't seem unusual or fresh, hence why they were added, I think.

I hope we keep getting shows like this that demonstrate how easy it's become to exploit others, and especially how young guys are conditioned into thinking aggression and treating girls like objects is normal. So much of youth culture - specifically hip-hop and related youth social media platforms (like worldstar, for example) - normalise demeaning women in a way that wasn't as accessible to youth of the past.
It also shows how fact-free feminist propaganda has become totally accepted and unchallenged, and probably has become almost a self-fulfilling prophecy amongst a few quite young people. Way to go feminazis!

Anytime I see someone blame hip hop and/or feminism for the shitty behavior and poor decision making of suburban teens I find it laughable.

I don’t know where you guys were fifteen years ago but I was in high school and it wasn’t much different than what’s depicted on the show. The sex, drugs, and emotional baggage were all there. Guys like Nate got away with just as much, if not more. Social media has exposed everything that was already going on, not made it worse. If anything it’s given outcasts (like LGBTQIA youth) a platform and a larger sense of community.

so is Nate gay?
I think he and his dad are both femme-focused. I don’t get the impression that either of them are attracted to boyishness or masculinity.

So if this show is so realistic, which characters do you guys resonate with or reminds you of people that you know? I’ve known a few Maddys, and I was a Rue at one point...

I was for sure a combination of Rue and Kat in high school.

I would also say Rue(without the drugs and the wildness) I was definitely lost for a moment.

Ohh that’s why she was singing, thought that was weird....why did Jules continue to run?? Where tf she going anyway
Jules lowkey be on that fuck shit, when Rue felt herself going backwards she should have called her sponsor at that moment.
