Those military posture photos always get me. First of all... the university ones are always nude, and military is always in a jock? I'd think it would be the other way around. Anyways, the jock always seems hastily thrown on, with poorly positioned straps, and many times with twists in the straps. They can't be wearing them for long like that. The straps would be too uncomfortable.

I'm thinking they were nude for physicals, then throw on a jock to take some photos, then take it right off. There might have even been a box of jocks on the side to just toss one on for a moment, then return it, as sometimes I think the guys are wearing the same jock in photos dated the same day.

Agreed with your idea. There was something strange on the poses, and as you say maybe that they not used to wear jockstrap, just got one till the picture made. The other idea, the jocks from the big box and just put it back there while the next get one, could be right. I am not sure that they were washed at every evening.
