I don't think it is "new" - but I do think it is much more common now. These days it is pretty much required in gay porn - but when you look at older "vintage" porn it was very uncommon.

They didn’t. But the original negatives from the archives were digitised. That’s why lots of them are blurred, out of focus, the like. More interesting is the fact that photographers were in the locker rooms and showers, and nobody cared. Different times, no prudes around
