Yeah, you’re right about. You are technically mixed. Skin tone can vary and somewhat overlap, but that doesn’t range into white people having dark skin though.

biologists used to use words such as “negroloids”, and “mongoloids” when classifying humans. Those words are no longer used for obvious reasons. People considered such classifications dehumanizing.

a lot of people also don’t like that fact that we are “animals”... which, we are. Just because we have true sentience, and can perform “high level thinking,” humans give themselves more value than other life forms. A life form more advanced than us wouldn’t really think more of us than we think of say... worms, or ants.

No. We dont use it in genetics because it is meaningless. Human population cant be categorically divided like that in such arbitrary terms. You have said it yourself, skin tone varies, hair color varies etc.

The terms in use now are ethnicity and ancestry. With these terms, the variations are tied to actual genetic markers. Race is meaningless and will become even more meaningless as people from different ethnic groups marry. Look at Obama. Was he White or Black? Genetically he was equally black and white. What race is a Hispanic person? We are a blend of all 3 races. How useful is it to know your race when there is so much variation within that race? Imagine this: A black person from Somalia belongs to the same race as a black person from Memphis Tennessee. Do you really think that two ppl from such disparate ethnic group will share that many genetic markers just because they have the same skin color and maybe eye color and hair type?

In general, race has very limited use outside of anthropology. And even that is arguable.

yes, our ancestors separated, branched off, and were isolated from each other for a long period of time, allowing them to differentiate... certainly not to the point where we became different species from one another (as we all have incredibly similar DNA, and are still closely related), but enough for phenotypical difference to arise.

now that our species has become global co-minglers, our differentiation has stopped, and in thousands... or even tens of thousands of years... our progeny will all look more or less the same.

Thats precisely the problem. I need to see if I can link the article here but basically when scientist tried to use race as a proxy for ancestry it didnt work. Someone from Korea could look more closely related to someone from Europe than someone from Europe to someone from another European country (both white). This is especially true for the White "race". I think White and Black are the most problematic. I will try to explain in anotherbpost. Cell is dying.
