I am member of a very popular chain and one of their locations was so small that they had alternating days for men and women. It was funny to watch how quickly almost everyone (if you went to that gym, you kinda knew what the deal was) in order to get to the Jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms. Since the area wasn't co-ed most guys walked around naked and the hookups were bold and out in the open.

You may be asking, where were the employees? There was only three of them and they all sat huddled at the front desk talking about how they couldn't believe what was happening in the Jacuzzi area. The only time they would go back there was 20 minutes before closing and they would argue about who's turn it wasto go. Oh, they made as much noise as they could before entering. I'm guessing that had to do more so they didn't have to actually see anything. This location has since closed and the outrage was epic.

But yes it still, or was still going on before COVID19. As a matter of fact, it started getting so bad that the police were making weekly arrests there. That perp walk has to be aweful!

I mainly hear about gym hookups in America lol. I hear it Atlanta (LA fitness) it's also really prevalent.

Mine too. The thing I see is mostly folks (like myself) that have earbuds or full cover headphones. Not much talking except for a few core folks that work out together. Those at the racks tend to wear full cover headphones to drown out the public.

Today yes. Back then only 15 years after Stonewall, with many of us from small repressive towns, sex exploded in our lives after years of repression. I was a member of several gyms in the fitness craze of the 1980s and 1990s in NZ. None of the stories described above resonate with me. Most members did a frantic workout after work and then went on their way by themselves. True there was a lot of sexual energy and beautiful bodies. The gym culture did not encourage idle chatting.
