Besides being younger than Tom Holland and a few years older than Kit, Jacob doesn't suits the current Romeo fantasy.
And TBH, Jacob is known for his unsolicited opinions about his own romantic roles. The last thing in the most popular romantic gig need is the main actor doing bad press
Obviously is possible to do R & J while being older (or in Jacob's case, looking older) - Josh O'Connor and Jessie Buckley (both already over 30) did the role during pandemic but only theater-obsessed Britons saw it...

Tom Holland is older than him.
As I said, is a mix of reasons. His looks and behavior influences. He looks mature (and is very tall) and not rare acts like a diva during press releases.

By the way Paul Razner was about 36 years old when he starred in the first 1908 silent movie of Romeo and Juliet. It was only with the 1968 Franco Zefferelli cast actors young enough to be about the age of Romeo & Juliet. Last year both those actors started a lawsuit to sue the estate for 500 million dollars saying they were abused because they were filmed in the nude at such a young age, despite having even defended it in the past. The courts dismissed the case.

I’m convinced he doesn’t sleep anymore because he’s working incessantly. He didn’t even get to slip away from Frankenstein to go to Canne with Oh, Canada. Or the makeup has so transformed him and must be worn 24/7 that he could not appear in public.
