Yes, there are performers who are very much out in the open (like Dopyu, Hayashi, Hiroya, etc.) who proud themselves as AV performers & actually want public recognition. But there are others who are moonlighting & make their AV job a secret.
Unfortunately there are some fans who are just too much & start invading their personal space. And when it gets out of control, these performers get exposed. And when they get exposed, they eventually quit

(although probably it was also because some of their fans became too invasive).
