I don’t know that it’s fair to say that anyone was holding him back. He was very new to fame when they may have been together, and he may not have been fully comfortable. It’s been over a year later now, so it entirely possible that he’s just become more comfortable with the publicity now.

LOL, being at an event with your ex can be awkward period. It doesn't mean Joe is only happy now that he's broken up with Sebastian Croft (yes you can say his name, he's not Candyman). And of course he's feeling himself more in public because he's single again - almost all young gays do that after a breakup.

I still like them both, and thought they were really cute together. I definitely don't think either held the other back.
I just think in an effort to move on, Joe seems very outgoing again.
I think it may have been more the weight of a secret relationship (oh the irony!) and sailing those waters around a relatively toxic young fanbase more than either one being a negative to each other.

I am actually surprised that he doesn't pluck his eyebrows, just a little. I don't usually pay them much attention, but I happened to be watching a YouTube video with Joe and Kit, and I was like wow, they are almost a unibrow. It doesn't look bad, really, but I would think that a stylist or someone would have separated them just a bit more
