There's a piece of concept art of NWH that features Insomniac Spider-Man in front of the Statue of Liberty so there's a few out there who think he was supposed to appear. I think he was just used as a placeholder. Not everyone has played the games and who would they have used? John, Ben or keep the mask on and have Yuri speak? Any would have caused mayhem online - good or bad.

If you're talking about his backpack he's worn that in many stories before but he must have been taken classes last year because he submitted a poem to a student newspaper and they tagged him on Insta which he then shared on his story. He's still tagged if you check and only students can submit. He was filming a movie start of this year that wrapped up in May so who knows if he only went for a semester or got permission to film and take classes remotely.
