Everything seemed perfectly fine last week and earlier this week. He was saying how he hoped he wouldn’t lose his job after putting his foot in it too many times, and apologised for talking about a movie with inappropriate themes. He always seemed anxious about losing his job, it seems odd he would resign, particularly to move to a commercial station with a smaller audience. I’m guessing it’s about money and Capital clearly have the freedom to offer more than a BBC budget stretches to.
Every few days he said stuff about how he’s been in trouble and doubts they’d keep him and Vick for much longer, it never felt like he willingly wanted to go but was always getting told off.
It was his birthday midweek, and he was being reflective on how Judge Jordan had runs its course. He said he’d like to stop doing it, but if he knew he was leaving soon then he had no reason to mention Judge Jordan specifically. He could have just stopped that feature when he left.
And then of course he left on Thursday without an announcement or a goodbye, was this immediate sacking or approval to resign without a notice period? BBC Radio 2 told Ken Bruce to leave without working his notice when he joined Greatest Hits.
Vick Hope left Capital so she knows what it’s like over there. This week Jordan made a reference to Chris Stark when talking about good/bad drivers, but Chris was a forbidden name (when Radio 1 DJs join a rival they’re banned from being mentioned again, such as Chris Moyles and Dev). Was Chris Stark on his mind because he’d been poached to work with him at Capital?
