I just assumed that he was trying to get rid of the pills/balls of lint on his sweater! Those things are a menace

yeah, it's to remove the little lint balls that form up on sweaters and such. my parents actually had a little machine that you just "ironed" the shirt with and then it collected all the lint balls, but i have seen people say they use shaving razors for it. i just don't bother

That's actually the worst way to get them off, because there's always the risk of cutting the fabric. Better use a special comb for it.
