The last time someone said that was Jack Grazer on the Luca Guadagnino miniseries for HBO, and well, here we are. (I thought his more candid comment was simply saying "I think I was more ignorant before I did the show")

That being said, I suspect Kit is already openly bi if what we have heard about the casting process is true.
JDG is bi. He said on an insta live

I don’t usually post about sexuality because to each thier own, but I think he’s straight and the reason he’s mum on it is because 1. That’s his business but 2. For PR reasons — Netflix is trying to be inclusive and diverse; there’s been a lot of backlash over straight actors playing LGBTQ roles and a movement for productions to cast LGBTQ actors for LGBTQ roles; it wouldn’t look right from a marketing perspective for a straight guy to be cast as a lead for a LGBTQ character, especially when there is a possibility of earning awards (let’s face it, he’s bound to be a contender for something for his role as Nick); the rest of the cast on the other hand I believe is cast based on their character’s sexuality and persona — I’d just be shocked if he is indeed Bisexual like his character.

Many of these actors don't talk directly about their orientation when they're so young. Croft and Jessup were/are no different. Anyway, Kit has another interview out today where he dances around the topic in an even more hamhanded way when discussing how personal these issues were to him, if he's not LGBT in some fashion.

the sexuality arguments are insufferable.
True! I really don't care if he's gay or not. If he's gay, good for him (and for us). If not, it doesn't effect my life at all.

On another note, I've never read the books or heard about it until the series came out. I think Tao is gay, right? He acts so gay. Isaac could also be gay... idk

The show is sooooooo good! So sweet! It's a feel-good show. I'm sure Netflix will renew for a second season!

I think you're correct that young actors often don't directly discuss their sexuality both for personal and career reasons. Joe and Kit are both only 18 and declaring your sexuality to the world can be daunting, even if you're comfortable with it in your personal life. I also think not having the actors directly discuss their own sexuality, but instead focus on what Heartstopper means to them, is a way of sidestepping the controversy about whether or not straight actors should play queer roles which comes up whenever there's a show or movie like this. Personally, I think Joe is gay and Kit is straight, but that's just me.

I think his character is supposed to break the stereotype that feminine guys are gay. He's stated multiple times throughout the show that he's straight and from what I'm seeing fans of the novels/comics post it's pretty accurate to the source material

If he isn't gay, but he and Elle are dating later, will it make him gay?
Personally I don't think so. I think he's a straight guy in a not-cis relationship. That said, fuck labels man if they're happy there's really no need to put any labels on them

If anyone is interested in the story, I have read all of the graphic novels and novellas over the past couple years, shout if your unsure so proud Netflix, See-Saw and Alice made the screen adaptation so accurately (on the most part)
