Baby got nominated for an Oscar!! Absolutely deserved. I really hope he wins. The Power of the Dog was one of those movies that the more I thought about it afterwards, the more I appreciated. Kodi’s performance is a big reason for that.

You are totally right. He doesn’t have millions of social media follows because he’s not traditionally “Hollywood hot”. I think he’s beautiful haha. But he does deserve more attention as a good and handsome actor. I think as he gets more and more mature drama roles like this, he’ll continue to do well.

There was a scene in the film that carried so much emotion and subtle exhilaration. Phil(Benedict Cumberbatch) and Peter(Kodi Smit) was alone in the barn. Phil(Benedict Cumberbatch) was having an emotional moment coupled with anger. Peter(Kodi Smit) walks over to Phil and touches his arm while offering his kindness. Phil is overwhelmed by this gentle unforeseen affection by Peter and turns to him while placing his hand behind Peter’s head. He moves closer in what looks like a deep kiss coming but unfortunately it never happened. I will say this was one of the most tense scenes in the film and I enjoyed it despite the lack of a payoff.

For those looking for nudity or Brokeback Mountain 2.0 this isn’t it. The only nudity was a brief scene involving young ranchers using the lake to bathe. They frolic in the water while horse playing. Sorta like high school athletes would do. Some homoerotic vibes may be derived from this scene but it wasn’t what it appears.

This scene shows the ranchers laying naked by the lake soaking in the sun’s rays. Unbothered by the nude male bodies around them. Typical hetero behavior IMO

Overall the film felt half baked but it was a welcomed change of pace from the sci fi and superhero action films I’d been immersed in over the past few years. Peter(Kodi Smit) was the fascination in this film for me. He was mysterious, soft, feminine but far from being weak. The kid had a powerful presence as the film went on. I truly wish his character could’ve given us more. I also wanted to see Benedict’s character release some of that built up cum and sexual angst on one of those young ranch hands but oh well…lol
