Let's not forget Brian Thompson's kids. I highly doubt those boys are exactly crushing on Mangione. If anything, they must be gunning for him—literally. Depends on how vengeful they can be.
Honestly, if you were one of those boys, wouldn't you want justice for your father despite all the money you've inherited?
If there's a slight chance that Mangione is fully innocent, is not the shooter and has nothing to do with this, I'd like to see that evidence, but that seems very unlikely.
If he's going to plead mistaken identity, it had better be the truth or it might turn against him big time.
If he's going to plead insanity (or any variation thereof), he had better turn on the waterworks, show palpable remorse and not blame the victim or he won't gain sympathy with the jury (and I mean unbiased jurors).

You'd be surprised. Alot of people on the mainland are gun nuts, and alot of people on the mainland are obsessed with celebrities/popularity/fame/stardom/etc.
Infamy is a quick way for those types of losers to use the only and only thing they're good at (guns) to obtain the one thing those forgettable, lonely, scum desperately want: fame.
So therefore, they'll always will be remembered.
That's why John Lennon was shot by that sad sack of shit. As he once said so himself:
