Matt Bomer

This screams "cancelled after one season" and Bomer is still too young for this type of role.
I was hoping he'd land something much better after Fellow Travelers.
it's a weird choice especially for where he is at in his career for sure. But maybe he is being paid a lot idk, it's a Ryan Murphy production and he has always managed to thoroughly milk studios of their money

Actors seem to like working on Ryan Murphy’s shows, even though I find them to be pretty awful. They always start well but become an absolute mess after 2 episodes.
plus these days his shows don't even have sex/nudity like they used to. so you can't even watch them for that.

I enjoy a lot of his shows but I'm struggling to see who this would appeal to.
It's why it's giving "cancelled after one season".

It seems like a fake TV show made as a bluff during contract negotiations. He had just announced White Collar was in development the week before. Like he wants to get more money for White Collar or something. The timing is too odd, he was very excited to do White Collar and one week later he doesn't want to do it.

He would become a joke in the industry if he walked away from White Collar for a gay remake of The Golden Girls which you are correct would not last beyond a season. Plus the badness of the concept would be a reputation killer.

Very strange situation but no body ever accused actors of having more brains than ego.

But it doesn't even sound like a Golden Girls remake- i don't know why they are saying that. It's 2 men and a lady not 4 women. Matt's not old enough to be retired, they are in a different city. The only thing I'm hearing in common is that Nathan Lane lives w his mother. I don't get it.

Either way it sounds horrible- i hope it doesn't get picked up

Matt Bomer, Nathan Lane to Star in ‘Golden Girls’-Like Hulu Sitcom From Ryan Murphy and ‘Will & Grace’ Creators (EXCLUSIVE)

It’s not “The Golden Girls,” but get ready for a new, even gayer roommate sitcom.

I can exclusively report that Matt Bomer and Nathan Lane are set to star in “Mid-Century Modern,” a multi-cam series for Hulu executive produced by Ryan Murphy and created by “Will & Grace’s” Max Mutchnick and David Kohan.

Sources reveal that Bomer will take on the ditzy Rose-like character, played by Betty White in the original “Golden Girls,” with Lane taking on the Dorothy (Bea Arthur) of the bunch. Linda Lavin will play Lane’s mother, a la the original Sophia.

Bomer's publicist who is probably his husband called Variety and gave them an "exclusive" and told them to say this. They are telling people it is a gay Golden Girls and Bomer is playing Rose.

He's probably demanding a lot of money and thinks this will work as an ultimatum or something. Maybe he never heard of Valerie Harper.

They killed her character off in a fire.

“The series follows three best friends — gay gentlemen of a certain age – who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother and a naked Gen Z housekeeper.”

Television is in its biggest contraction in history - there's serious talk every week about an industry collapse - and suddenly Bomer would walk away from White Collar which was a pretty safe bet with a built in audience where he was the star and which was a very flattering role to instead play second banana to Nathan Lane on a sitcom that sounds so bad that the target audience - everyone who is posting HERE - is saying it sounds horrible? One week after saying he was going to do the reboot?

He's holding out for more money. He thinks he's irreplaceable. That's just how a lot of people in the industry are. The more precarious the position they are in - a man known for his looks at age 46 won't have too many options soon - the more likely they are to pull bullshit like this.

If they want to spend more money, they may as well go ahead and replace him with Henry Cavill.

Where is this talk about him not doing the White Collar reboot coming from? Where is he on record saying he won't do it anymore?

Ya'll sure have a lot of opinions about a show you literally haven't even seen yet... but okay.

Also please spare the melodramatics will ya? The sky ain't falling just because of this one show. Relax. Even if it supposedly flops, his career will be just fine. Enough with the hysterics. He still has 2 theatrical releases coming down the pipeline. What is with this negative ass energy? I'ts like some of you WANT to see him fall. Jesus

Wait, he’s playing Rose? He should have played Blanche! He is too good looking for Rose

No reason he can’t do both. If both shows go ahead they sound like they’d both be on streaming, so probably only about 10 episodes each.
He can't do both. If he shoots a pilot he can't commit to another series. He's stuck with the pilot until a determination is made on whether the pilot is picked up. If the pilot is picked up, he can't star in another series at all. He will have to wait until the series is cancelled or voluntarily exit the series after one season - if the producers allow it. If the pilot were to go into production next month, he would effectively block out his availability for another series for possibly a year, even if the show was only shot over 8 weeks (traditional sitcoms shoot one episode a week), because he would have to wait until the show premieres and a determination is made about its future.

Let's say the pilot is shot in August, ordered to series in September, and shot over 8 weeks in November or December. Come January, he's be able to do a movie or a limited series, but he could not do another series until Midcentury Modern (this seems like a fake series!) aired all its episodes and was cancelled. Let's say Hulu wanted to hold the series until summer so they could promote it at Pride events. It airs all the episodes over July and August. He would not have a determination on the series renewal in September. And if the series is renewed, the cycle continues.

The correct thing to do even if White Collar was in the very early stages of development would be to pursue film roles (which he was getting), limited series and doing TV guest spots. Keep his schedule open until a determination was made on whether White Collar would get picked up.

That's why this looks like a leveraging tactic. "I'm available now, give me the money I want or I'm not going to be available for another year if at all."
