Think it seemed to change in the US around 1990-ish where the clothes started getting baggier.

I was watching a porn video from 1970 several years ago (can't find it anymore) of a college-aged orgy, maybe 30-40 people, and every guy and girl wore briefs, mostly white, and many guys wore bikini style briefs.

Back then boxers were grandpa underwear because they covered everything and many kids who wore them would get teased.

When I grew up in the 00s, I was one of the few who wore briefs, at least at urban schools. In rural schools, briefs were still fairly popular. I remember in 5th, 6th grade, we'd sometimes talk about the kind of briefs that we wear hahaha. Last decade and now you see more briefs in locker rooms, and now styles seems to be getting more form-fitting again.

I've changed openly in thongs that because I've worn tights a lot. I think after doing it a lot I just felt less self-conscious?

In school some kids who wore briefs would leave their shirt on so it covered them, then once their gym shorts were on would take their shirt off, then put their gym shirt on.

correct, even bikini style briefs were common those days among both men and women, not sure what happened that women's clothing got smaller and smaller after that and men's clothing became bigger and bigger to the extent that bikini briefs totally got extinct and even if someone wear them in North America is straightaway designated gay or showing off.. not sure what caused the change in this mindset?

I'm 99% commando except for doctor visits that will require me to strip down. My underwear are bikini pouch, but with my ass cheeks covered (because I hate anything like g-strings or thongs inside my butt crack).

I went back to mostly standard tighty whities (cotton CK low rise and Staffords) a few years ago. Love how traditionally masculine they are when men wear them confidently.
